A student at Lewiston-Porter Senior High School was arrested on Thursday after a search led to the discovery of two shotguns in their vehicle.
The guns were discovered during a planned search of the school grounds by K9 units from the Lewiston Police Department, North Tonawanda Police Department and Niagara County and Erie County sheriff’s offices.
During the search, a K9 alerted to the vehicle in a parking lot, at which point the guns were discovered. Lewiston Police said the student was cooperating with the investigation and it had been determined that the guns were left in the vehicle by accident. Police further noted that there was never any threat to the school.
The student was charged with criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds.
