As Grand Traverse County says goodbye to County Clerk Bonnie Scheele, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for her years of dedicated service and for the example she has set as a public servant.
Having had the opportunity to work alongside Bonnie and now succeeding her as Grand Traverse county clerk, I have seen, firsthand, the professionalism, integrity, and commitment she brought to the office each day. She consistently placed service to the public above politics and approached every responsibility with fairness, diligence, and respect for the citizens we serve.
Bonnie’s leadership extended beyond the duties of the office. She was a mentor to many, including myself, generously sharing her knowledge, experience, and perspective. Her willingness to teach, guide, and encourage others helped strengthen not only the clerk’s office, but the broader community of public servants throughout Grand Traverse County.
One of the qualities I most admire about Bonnie is her commitment to nonpartisan election administration and professional public service. During a time when election officials across the country have faced increasing scrutiny and pressure, she remained focused on the law, the facts, and the responsibility of serving every voter fairly and impartially.
I am grateful for the foundation Bonnie has built and for the guidance she has provided. Grand Traverse County has benefited from her example and her leadership, and I know I speak for many when I thank her for her service, her mentorship, and her unwavering dedication to our community. I wish her a long, healthy, and well-deserved retirement.
