God wants to be your source of life. God wants to be the source of your identity, the fountain of your personality. He wants to work together with the uniqueness of who you are and bring to life the person you were created to be, today, tomorrow, and the day after that.
There was a time where I got a Boston Cream doughnut from a certain doughnut shop, and bite after bite, I found that there was no cream filling in it at all. Sometimes that’s what life feels like. Sometimes that’s what waking up and going through our day feels like. We feel like a Boston Cream doughnut without the cream, and a Boston Cream doughnut without the cream is not a Boston Cream doughnut. Likewise, some days we don’t feel like us.
It’s times like these where we need to get back to the source, Jesus Christ, and do the things he has already called us to do. Operate in the spiritual giftings he has given us. Activate and put to use the talents he has bestowed upon us! In doing this, we remember who we are. When we live for God’s glory, we remember who we are. The person that we were born again to be comes out of our shells, and we feel alive again.
If you already know who you are in Christ, don’t wait for somebody to sign a release form for you to be who God has called you to be. Don’t wait for God to send you a text message, telling you to do the things you already know you have been called and empowered to do. Take some initiative and walk in your calling.
Paul tells Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:6-7, “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Stir up the gift of God in you. Stir up those coals in your soul until a blazing fire emerges again.
Does cooking make you feel alive? Maybe there’s a reason for that. Cook your favorite dish and give it away freely to someone who would be blessed by it. Tell them that this meal is from Jesus! Let your cooking reveal the love of God.
Does golf make you feel alive? Start a Bible study with your golf buddies. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to turn your hobby into a ministry.
Does bringing comfort to the needy make you feel alive? Go and do that. Start a nursing home ministry or a hospital ministry and bring the presence of God with you wherever you go, preaching the gospel, being there in Christ’s stead.
If lamps had feelings, I imagine that they would feel pretty lousy if they sat around day after day with their electrical cord lying on the floor not connected to the outlet. They were created to shine in the darkness, illuminate, give light to those around them, and if that’s not what they’re doing, they’re bound to become discouraged, depressed and dejected. They may start feeling worthless and hopeless. They may become jealous of the other lamps that are still shining. As time goes by, they may even forget that they are even lamps.
We are unlike lamps in that we personally have the ability to plug ourselves back into the source — and experience life to the fullest once again. Remember who you are and get connected to the source by doing what the new you is created to do.
