Hebbertsburg Community Center uniquely recognized the country’s 250th birthday/anniversary in July by celebrating one family’s 46th wedding anniversary with a group that included a 7-week-old great-great-grandson, three great-great-granddaughters, a granddaughter and a daughter with their spouses, as well as another woman who celebrated her 88th birthday.
“The crowd was large and enthusiastic, most of the tables were filled, the music was patriotic, the Sweet T cloggers were amazing and the food was freshly prepared and delicious,” said Sharon Hilton, who attends the spring and summer dinners and dances. “It doesn’t get any better than that.”
There’s one more chance to attend the dinner and dance in 2026 — the last event of the season will be Aug. 8 at 8697 Hebbertsburg Road, Crab Orchard.
The doors open at 3:30 p.m. Meals of spaghetti and meat sauce or barbecue sandwich and chips with soft drink, coffee or iced tea are available for $11 by 4:15.
Admission is $7 per adult, free for ages 16 and younger. All workers are volunteers; funds collected are used to cover the center’s year-round expenses.
Music for listening and dancing pleasure will be from 5-8 p.m. A cakewalk takes place on the first break, with the Sweet T Cloggers performing at both intermissions.
To reach Hebbertsburg Community Center, go through Fairfield Glade on Peavine Road and continue through the stoplight at Stonehenge Drive; continue 5 miles north to the fork in the road at the stone house. (Watch for the posted signs.) Take the left fork about a city block; the Community Center is on the left.
