CHULA — Tiftarea Academy softball may be getting momentum turned back their way after tough recent losses.
Last week, the Lady Panthers fell to Stratford Academy (14-2) and Fullington Academy (18-8), but Tuesday torched Telfair County by a 14-6 score. The game was at McRae-Helena.
Aided by three runs in the first and three more in the second, Tiftarea had a 7-0 lead in the top of the third. Telfair plated three in the bottom half, according to stats on GameChanger, but the Lady Panthers responded with three in the fourth.
Olivia Monfort had a massive day in the batter’s box, homering while driving in six runs on a 3-for-5 performance. She also scored four times and doubled.
Coley Beth Croft and Calla Joyner each had three hits. Raelyn Owens struck out seven in four innings. Summer Gray struck out three in her two frames.
Owens had two hits against Stratford, driving in both runs on a fifth inning double. Lizzie Hendricks and McKenna Graham scored the runs.
Cloe Sercer joined Owens with two hits. Owens gave up a single earned run over four innings, striking out three.
A five-run fourth pulled Tiftarea to 8-6 against Fullington and the score was 10-8 after five frames before the Lady Trojans pulled away.
It was another two-hit game for Owens, with Croft with two hits as well. Croft drove in three Tiftarea runners and Owens plated two. Joyner and Sercer scored twice.
Fullington scored 18, but missed just as many. Owens struck out an amazing 13 hitters. Monfort fanned two in an inning of work.
Tiftarea has a District 1-3A game Thursday against Terrell Academy. They will make a return trip to Southwest Georgia Academy Sept. 10.
