THOMASVILLE — As their inaugural season approaches, the newly formed Thomas County Central flag football team hosted a scrimmage against fellow first-year program Fitzgerald. The Lady Jackets had an excellent showing in the scrimmage, scoring five touchdowns as opposed to Fitzgerald’s one.
Central’s offense looked good on Wednesday, especially their run game. They broke away for two big rushing touchdowns early on in the scrimmage and both times went basically untouched to the end zone.
“Good players make good coaches,” said Lady Jackets head coach Chad Parkerson. “We’ve got some girls that can run and my job is to get them in space and I tell them if we can get you in space and you can make one person miss I have a feeling a big play is a bout to happen. We’ve got some girls who can do that.”
Parkerson said he was very excited by the depth this Central team seems to have with multiple players scoring.
“What I was really excited about was I think we had five touchdowns and I think four different people scored touchdowns. I think we had four extra points that were successful and I think three different people scored extra points. It was truly a team effort.”
The Lady Jackets’ defense also looked very good on Wednesday. They allowed just one touchdown and had very few miscues. They had multiple chances at interceptions and the big plays that they did give up were mostly due to missed flags. The girls did a very good job of being in the right position and shutting down the Purple Hurricane.
Thomas County Central head football coach Justin Rogers was in attendance and has invited the Lady Jackets’ flag football team to kickoff the football teams midnight madness event.
