CORDELE — Tift County softball added two more wins over the weekend at the Watermelon Invitational, raising its overall record to 6-2 for the season.
The Lady Devils walloped Emanuel County Institute, 7-1, in the morning, then added a 10-4 win over Dodge County.
Tift and ECI were tied 1-1 in the fourth inning before the Lady Devils exploded for six runs.
Marlee Veazey, Ella Bruce and Morgan Brey filled the bases with no outs. Braylin Dorden singled in two of the runners for a 3-1 lead. An error saw C.B. McCrary reach and Brey score.
ECI got two outs, but Lily Robinson added two runs on a single, scoring Stella Bryant and McCrary. Back up again, Veazey drove home Riley Williams.
Brey was Tift’s first run, scoring on an error in the second frame.
Robinson and Veazey had two hits each. In the circle Robinson allowed one earned run and struck out five.
Against Dodge, the Lady Devils jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third, then tacked on a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Robinson hit her first varsity homer in the first, a three-run shot that also plated Williams and Hannah Grace Murphy. Brey had two RBIs.
Tift pounded out 11 hits, two each for Williams, Veazey, McCrary and Bryant.
Pitchers Robinson and Veazey combined for the win.
Tift was to play Cook Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m.
