TIFTON — Tift County softball blew out one opponent and dropped a pair of one-run decisions as the regular season continued on the road over the weekend.
Tift smashed LaGrange in five innings, 8-0 in Leesburg Saturday. Later that day, the host Lee County Lady Trojans won, 4-3. Monday at Lanier County, the state powerhouse Lady Bulldogs won, 2-1. Tift was to play at Crisp County Tuesday.
One day after Lily Robinson no-hit Forsyth Central, Hannah Grace Murphy nearly did the same to LaGrange. Only two Lady Grangers collected hits. Murphy struck out three and walked three.
Braylin Dorden hit a two-run homer for the Lady Devils in the second inning. She was 2-for-2 for the day, driving in three runs. Robinson and Marlee Veazey also had two-hit days and Veazey and Stella Bryant drove in two apiece.
Lee scored all of its runs in the fifth in Saturday’s nightcap. Only one was earned and Tift otherwise outhit them, 8-4.
Riley Williams had two hits. She and Veazey each drove in a run. Robinson fanned three.
Monday was a pitcher’s duel. Lanier scored an unearned run in the first. That was the only tally until C.B. McCrary brought home Ella Bruce in the seventh.
A tough unearned run in the bottom half of the frame saw Lanier walk off a win.
Williams had another two-hit night for Tift.
