WINDHAM, N.H. — Windham standout Jack Koutrobis knew Friday night’s tilt versus Salem would draw massive support from the Jaguar faithful.
And the Jags on the court and off certainly did not disappoint.
Windham controlled every facet of the game, beating Salem 61-42 to remain undefeated at home this winter.
“That atmosphere we had tonight just makes the stakes higher, and overall, it just makes the game better,” said Koutrobis. “Every possession was great, it’s a rivalry with Salem. A bunch of people on both sides know each other, and it’s always fun.”
First-year Windham coach Carson Desrosiers was thrilled with what he saw from his players, and the support his team received.
“Salem came in pregame trying to spoil that record at home, and we have played some great basketball here at home,” said Desrosiers. “As a staff, we need to try to translate that into some road games.
“I have to give a shout out to the students and the community for coming out tonight. We are feeding off the student energy, and it’s awesome to see. It was a white-out game, but the thought is we want this to happen every single night in this gym.
Koutrobis led the way with a strong night for the Jags, finishing with 15 points, and hustling on both sides.
“Jack is our leader, one of our captains, he’s always diving on loose balls,” added Desrosiers. “He plays like there is no tomorrow, and we are going to go as far as he wants to take us.”
Salem had a lead early on after a Felix Gonzalez three, but the Jaguars led the remainder of the contest. Koutrobis scored four points in the first quarter, and Tyler Jordan ended the quarter with a three. Jordan, a sophomore off the bench, shot 4 for 4 from deep, ending the game with 12 points.
The Jaguars’ lead grew to 10 points at the break, with Jack Begley taking over inside the paint. It was more of the same in the second half, as Salem was just unable to find consistent opportunities.
After a Ben Roy and-one, the Jaguars lead grew to 23, and Windham was able to empty the bench.
“We are coming off of a tough loss, so it’s always great to get back in the win column,” said Desrosiers. “We are always celebrating our wins, and now we have an opportunity to start another winning streak.”
