Kinseekers at Fairfield Glade will host an informative event for family history enthusiasts from 1-3 p.m. May 1.
Answering the Bells, a Biography of a Steamboat Engineer will be presented by Rich Haycox, a long-time researcher and member of the Kinseeker group.
The presentation will include a video of “The Captain and The Engineer,” information on the agricultural and industrial revolutions, education and apprenticeships in the Victorian Era, immigrant voyages including embarkation, hardships, steerage and duration, and family interstate migration from Michigan to Ohio to California.
“Genealogy allows you to connect with your ancestors, their lives, and the challenges they faced, leading to a deeper understanding and appreciation of your heritage,” Haycox said. “Writing a genealogy biography allows you to preserve family stories, traditions, and values for future generations. A genealogy biography offers numerous benefits, including a deeper understanding of your heritage, a stronger sense of identity, and a connection to your ancestors and their stories, while also fostering a sense of belonging and pride in your family history.”
The event will be in meeting rooms B and C at Christ Lutheran Church, 481 Snead Drive in Fairfield Glade.
Haycox, a U.S. Navy veteran, is a long-time member of Kinseekers at Fairfield Glade. He holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and retired from Ford Motor Co. in 2003.
Haycox has been researching his roots in England and Northwestern Europe as well as Central and Eastern Europe since 2011. He was born in Detroit, MI, married Janice in 1973 and has one son and three grandchildren to whom he’ll pass down his family history.
