Kimberly King has been named managing editor of the Plattsburgh Press-Republican, General Manager Scott Bresett announced recently.
King previously served as managing editor of the La Porte County, Indiana, Herald Argus before joining CNHI, parent company of the Press-Republican, in 2017 at newspapers in Anderson and Goshen, Indiana. She most recently served as managing editor at the Kokomo Tribune, which in 2023 earned the Hoosier State Press Association’s Blue Ribbon Award for top daily newspaper in Indiana. It was the first time the newspaper won the award since its inception in 1850.
Last month, the Kokomo Tribune was awarded the First Amendment Award through the Society of Professional Journalists Indiana Chapter for work on the Delphi Trial Media Coverage, which was a case that involved two teens who had been murdered in Indiana. The award honors those who have fought for First Amendment freedoms.
King also serves as a regional editor for CNHI’s New York, and several Ohio and Pennsylvania newspapers, and is a magazine leader for the company, mentoring over a dozen publications across the U.S.
“I am excited to bring on King as our new editor,” Bresett said. “Her experience, talents and excitement for journalism will produce great things for the Press-Republican and surrounding community. I look forwarded to working with her as she has some great ideas and I believe our readers will love what she has to offer.”
A native of Maryland, King started her career in journalism as a reporter in 1996 for The Ascension Citizen in Gonzales, Louisiana, after studying journalism at Southeastern Louisiana University. She also worked as a news editor and design editor for newspapers in Ohio and Pennsylvania before joining CNHI.
“I’m thrilled to join the talented team here at the Press-Republican,” King said. “This is a group of individuals dedicated to community journalism and producing a quality newspaper. I am excited to be a part of this newsroom and continue a tradition of providing reliable journalism to the North Country.”
