KEYSER, W.Va. — Leighton Johnson retired all 15 batters she faced in No. 2 Keyser’s five-inning, 8-0 shutout of No. 5 Frankfort on Friday.
Johnson struck out eight and had a pair of punch-outs in three consecutive frames for the Golden Tornado (8-1).
Keyser had nine hits, led by Mady McIntyre and Suzy Cosenza with two each.
Both players also recorded three RBIs with McIntyre adding a stolen base.
Keyser heads to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Monday for the Grand Strand Classic.
The Tornado open with Lewisburg of Richburg, South Carolina on Monday at noon.
Frankfort (8-2) hosts South Harrison for a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
East Hardy 28, Hampshire 13
ROMNEY, W.Va. — Football season doesn’t start until August, but neither team got the message on Friday.
After combining for 41 runs, 19 hits and 28 walks, East Hardy won a wild game over Hampshire.
The Cougars (2-3) scored 13 runs in the fourth inning off nine walks including five in a row.
There were also three hit batters including back-to-back plunks which scored runs.
East Hardy drew 21 free passes while combining for 10 hits.
Madison Strosnider was credited with seven RBIs while Gracie Hershman earned six.
Kylee Potter had three of the nine hits for the Trojans (0-6) and stole two bases.
The teams will rematch at East Hardy on Monday at 6 p.m.
Hampshire hosts Lewis County on Saturday at noon.
