FRANKLIN, W.Va. — Keyser led midway through the third quarter, but Colton Roberson’s 500 total yards and seven touchdowns led Pendleton County to a 48-34 victory over the Golden Tornado on Friday night.
Addison Brafford scampered 26 yards to the end zone to give Keyser (0-1) a 28-21 lead with 8:03 left in the third quarter.
That’s when Pendleton (1-0) scored 21 unanswered points, with Roberson tossing touchdowns of 12, 15 and 28 yards, to pull away for good.
Roberson connected on 24 of 38 passes for 442 yards and five touchdowns, and the sophomore had 11 rushes for 109 yards and two more scores.
Roberson also made 12 tackles and recovered a fumble on defense.
Brafford scored three touchdowns for the Golden Tornado, and Grayson Lambka found the end zone twice.
The game was tied 7-7 after the first quarter and 21-all at the half. Pendleton took a 35-28 edge into the fourth.
Keyser will look to bounce back when it hosts Lewis County on Friday at 7 p.m.
Petersburg 56, Berkeley Springs 13
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Payton Metheny tossed five touchdowns to guide Petersburg to a season-opening rout of Berkeley Springs on Friday night.
Metheny completed 9 of 15 passes for 157 yards, five touchdowns and an interception. He added 29 yards on the ground.
Lukas Wolford was the Vikings’ leading rusher with seven carries for 89 yards and a score. Wolford also returned an interception for a touchdown, one of Petersburg’s two in the game along with Micah Ertel.
Petersburg’s Kaleb Kuhn caught four passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns, Evan Tawney made three grabs for 36 yards and two TDs, and Matthew McDonald added 28 yards and a score on two receptions.
The Indians lead the series 30-25-1, but the Vikings have won 10 straight.
Petersburg (1-0) hosts Wyoming East on Friday at 7 p.m.
Wahama 79, East Hardy 40
MASON, W.Va. — Reigning Class A state champion Wahama scored 59 points before halftime and rolled to a rout of East Hardy on Friday night.
The victory was Wahama’s 15th in a row and 31st straight in the regular season.
Wahama rushed for 660 yards and had 712 yards of total offense.
East Hardy (0-1) was within 28-26 in the second quarter until Wahama scored 45 unanswered points.
Cougars quarterback Trevor Roof connected on 14 of 22 passes for 288 yards and four touchdowns, and he rushed for 79 yards and two scores.
Levi Price caught six passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns, Khristian Bauserman had three catches for 90 yards and a TD, and Dayton Dove caught a score.
East Hardy is at Pendleton County on Friday at 7 p.m.
