KEYSER, W.Va. — Consistent scoring for Keyser led the Golden Tornado to a 10-6 win over Frankfort on Friday.
The Tornado (4-3) scored three runs in the third through fifth innings.
Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Brielle Root doubled and Makayla Gillaspie drew a walk.
Tayler Likens sent a fly ball to left for a three-run home run, extending Keyser’s lead to 4-0.
Five Tornado hitters recorded two hits led by Likens who drove in five RBI.
Rylee Mangold went the distance for Keyser, striking out 19 batters. She allowed seven hits, three earned runs and three walks.
Adison Pritts and Raley Nestor each hit home runs for the Falcons (4-3).
Trailing 7-1 in the fifth, Nestor sent a fly ball to left for a three-run shot.
With two on in the top of the seventh, Pritts went deep to center for another three-run home run.
Pritts and Nestor each drove in three RBI. Pritts and Avery Noel each had two hits.
Frankfort heads to Frostburg for the Avery Bridges Tournament.
The Falcons play Mountain Ridge at noon and Moorefield at 2:30 p.m.
Keyser heads to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the Grand Strand Classic.
The Tornado face Vestal High of New York on Monday at 4 p.m.
Petersburg split doubleheader
HEDGESVILLE — Petersburg split a doubleheader at the Hedgesville Tournament on Friday.
The Vikings (7-0) defeated Hedgesville 14-6 in five innings and lost to Jefferson 5-4.
Against Hedgesville, Petersburg scored 10 runs in the third inning.
After a groundout to open the frame, the Vikings recorded four straight hits.
After a second groundout, six consecutive batters recorded hits.
The streak ended with a two-run home run by Sam Colaw to left field.
It was her second of the game as she hit a two-run homer to center that tied the game at 2 in the first inning.
Colaw finished with four hits, seven RBI and two home runs.
Shyane Tawney had three hits and Cheyenne Sites and Miley Tingler each recorded two.
Gracie Carpenter earned the win out the bullpen with three shutout innings.
Maggie Boyer led the Eagles with three hits and two RBI.
Against Jefferson, the Cougars trailed 4-2 in the sixth but rallied for three runs.
Madison Clark doubled, driving in two runs to tie the game at 4.
A fielding error at first base gave the Cougars a 5-4 lead.
Colaw went the distance for Petersburg, allowing six hits, five runs (one earned) and two walks with five strikeouts.
She led the Vikings with two hits and a RBI.
Ella Chew hit a two-run home run in the second that gave Petersburg a 3-2 lead.
Jersey Rummel pitched a complete game for Jefferson, allowing six hits, four runs and two walks with four punchouts.
The Vikings face John Marshall on Saturday at 10 a.m. and get a rematch with Jefferson at noon.
Hampshire loses doubleheader
ROMNEY, W.Va. — Hampshire dropped a doubleheader on Friday to Washington, losing game one 9-1 and game two 20-0 in three innings.
In game one, the Trojans (2-7) scored its lone run in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Dakota Strawderman that made the score 5-1.
Washington scored three runs in the third and sixth inning and scored at least one run in all but one inning.
Taylor Decker led the Patriots with three hits including two doubles.
Carly Crowder and Courtney Greenfield each had two hits.
Crowder went six innings, allowing one hit and one run with three walks and 10 strikeouts.
In game two, the Patriots scored 17 runs in the second inning.
Washington loaded the bases and scored five runs without an out.
After back-to-back outs up 7-0, the next 14 batters all reached safely.
Hampshire allowed seven hits and five walks during the stretch.
It included a three-run home run by Kalyn Dean that made the score 16-0.
Four Patriots had multiple hits led by Gabby Bibb with three hits and three RBI.
Zoe Kesterson threw three shutout innings, allowing no hits with one walk and seven punchouts.
The Trojans head to Berkeley Springs for a doubleheader on Monday at 5 p.m.
Tucker County 15, East Hardy 0
BAKER, W.Va. — Tucker County blanked East Hardy in four innings on Friday.
The Mountain Lions scored at least three runs in every inning and scored in all four innings.
Katelyn Hicks led Tucker with three hits and five RBI.
Peyton Hicks got the win in three innings, allowing one hit and two walks with a pair of strikeouts.
The Cougars (0-5) head to Pendleton County on Monday at 2 p.m.
