Neighbors and Newcomers had their last meeting of the 2023-24 year with their annual silent auction.
One of the favorite meetings is also the club’s best fundraiser, which provides funds the club donates to community nonprofits every year. Almost $1,000 was raised this year.
Also on the agenda was the installation of new officers for the 2024-25 club year. New executive committee officers for the next year will include President Jessie Kent, Vice President Mary Ann Webb, Secretary Lucille Kelly and Treasurer Julie Quinn.
Other members serving on various committees include Robbie Corbin, Carolyn Champagne, Donna Smith, Shirley Freeman, Nancy Clore, Jeanne Dougherty, Arlene Albert, Evelyn Church, Marie Meibaum, Pat Richmond, Vickie Hajny, Denise Brown, Marcie Soprych, Terry Renaud, Karen Bahr and Faye Strelesky.
Without help from many of the club members Neighbors and Newcomers couldn’t do such good works for the community, while providing a fun social gathering for anyone in Cumberland County who wants to join in.
All are welcome to attend the meetings, which are held on the fourth Thursday of the month from September-May; a combined November-December meeting takes place the first Thursday of December due to the holidays.
Meetings are in various locations around the county so that it’s always close to some members some of the time.
The club’s motto is “Best Little Club on the Mountain,” meet a stranger, make a friend, and newcomers and not-so-newcomers are invited
Neighbors and Newcomers also thanks businesses, most of whom have donated door prizes every month. Most members stay till the end of the meetings to see if they’ve won a prize.
Thanks to Cumberland County Playhouse, Hair Connection, Mayberry’s, Captain D’s, Rene Burt at Fairfield Beauty Shoppe, Dave Kirk Chevrolet, Regions Bank, Fifth Street Marketplace, Forte’s and Flying Pig.
