Something is brewing over at Lawler Arena and the man in the middle of it is Merrimack College freshman men’s hoopster Kevair Kennedy.
Merrimack has now won 10 of its last 12 games, with recent wins over reigning MAAC regular season champion Quinnipiac (83-71) in North Andover before beating Marist (68-55) in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Monday.
And the freshman from Philadelphia has been in the middle of it all, copping his third MAAC Rookie of the Week award.
Kennedy averaged 21.5 points per game over the two big wins, scoring 23 points, while shooting 50 percent from the field and playing the full 40 minutes for the fourth straight game.
In that win over Quinnipiac he made eight free throws and came down with eight rebounds, just missing a triple-double with six assists.
In the win over Marist, Kennedy scored 20 points, adding four rebounds and one assist.
Merrimack, 12-8 overall and 8-1 while tied for first place in the MAAC, travels to Iona on Thursday followed by a big game at Lawler Arena on Saturday against St. Peter’s, which is also 8-1.
