KASOTA — A rapidly spreading grass fire broke out Friday afternoon near Elysian Road and Crystal Cove Road in Kasota, prompting emergency response as flames moved toward nearby structures.
Fire crews from Kasota, Cleveland, Madison Lake and Eagle Lake were on scene as of 4 p.m., working to contain the blaze, according to the Southern Minnesota Scanner Incidents Facebook page. Smoke from the fire had been visible as far away as Mankato and surrounding communities. Emergency medical services were also on standby.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has classified Blue Earth County’s fire risk level as “high” due to dry weather conditions. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
