An 18-year-old man has been arrested following a stabbing incident in Dalton on Feb. 19.
Per Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office records, suspect Blaine Austin Bishop is facing aggravated assault charges stemming from an alleged attack on a juvenile victim along Fourth Avenue on Monday night.
“Investigators say that the victim was with some of his friends in a park when Bishop approached the victim and tried to start a fight,” a city of Dalton press release from Feb. 20 states. “Investigators believe that Bishop and the victim have had a previous history of conflict.”
Per City of Dalton Communications Director Bruce Frazier, the victim was stabbed half a dozen times.
Frazier notes that the victim was taken to a regional hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect purportedly fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
“After interviewing witnesses at the scene, investigators were able to determine the tag number of the vehicle that Bishop left in and used that information to track him to his residence on May Street,” the press release indicates. “After obtaining warrants for his arrest, detectives arrested Bishop without incident at the residence shortly before 1 a.m. (on Tuesday).”
Frazier indicates that law enforcement did recover a knife believe to be used in the stabbing.
Police continue to investigate. Law enforcement request that individuals with additional information pertaining to the incident contact Dalton Police Department Detective Charles Williams at (706) 278-9085, extension 9-280.
