MCHENRY — Garrett College head coach Jon Price earned his first win in college soccer, leading the Lakers (1-2) to a 2-1 victory over Frederick on Tuesday.
The former Southern boy’s soccer head coach took over Garrett in January after leading the Rams to a 12-3 record last fall, the most since 1999.
Praise Ngoma opened the scoring for the Cougars (1-5-1) on a penalty kick at the 36:49 mark of the first half.
Darius Hamilton answered from eight yards out on the right side 40 seconds later for the Lakers.
Tied at 1 at halftime, Lucas Alonso scored the decisive goal at the 16:47 mark of the second half from six yards out on the left side.
Frederick out-shot Garrett 18-9 and led 5-3 in corner kicks.
Northern graduate Wyatt Hull recorded eight saves for the Lakers.
Casey Cutshall earned three saves while Thomas McCaffrey had two for the Cougars.
Garrett plays at Hagerstown on Thursday.
WVU Potomac State College 2, CCBC Catonsville 2
CATONSVILLE — Potomac State trailed for most of the game, but two second-half goals prevented a loss and secured a draw with Catonsville on Tuesday.
The Cardinals (1-2-3) opened the scoring at the 24:45 mark of the first half with a goal from Michael Muchai off an assist by David Nwachukwu.
Kham Sing scored at the 54:55 mark to put Catonsville ahead 2-0 at halftime.
The Catamounts (4-1-2) answered at the 65:25 mark of the second half on a Matthieu Baudry score.
Brady Grubb scored about 13 minutes later at the 78:03 mark to even the score.
Potomac State led in shots 14-3 while Catonsville led 4-2 in corners.
Atendem Fuamazah earned five saves for the Cardinals while Justin Leclerc had one for the Catamounts.
Potomac State plays at Cecil on Thursday.
