ST. PETER — An inmate faces five felonies for allegedly trying to smuggle fentanyl into Nicollet County’s jail.
Latjor Biel Gatkuoth, 27, of Mankato, was charged with two felonies for drug sales, three felonies for drug possession and a gross misdemeanor for introducing contraband into jail in March in Nicollet County District Court.
A criminal complaint states a correctional officer saw a clear bag containing a white substance in Gatkuoth’s cell during a check on March 9. The substance field tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 2.2 grams.
Officers then searched Gatkuoth and found two more baggies, according to the complaint. One baggie contained 90 blue pills appearing to be fentanyl and the other had a white powdery substance appearing to be cocaine.
Gatkuoth reportedly initially said the baggies were in the room when he got there.
The suspected cocaine actually field tested positive for fentanyl, the complaint states, weighing in at 5.4 grams. The pills weighed in at 10.35 grams.
The complaint notes the number of pills was consistent with sales rather than personal use.
