MANKATO — Authorities are investigating a potential suspect in the case of a fatal dog shooting in South Bend Township in late March, according to a release from the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation remains ongoing and no information about the person’s identity is being released at this time. No charges have been filed in the case as of Wednesday afternoon.
The release states the sheriff’s office partnered with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, of ASPCA, and an animal autopsy will be conducted by the Veterinary Forensic Science Center to recover more evidence.
Prior to the shooting of Lily, an 8-year-old mixed breed dog, her owners received a threatening note referring to her. Lily was on the deck and family members were home at the time of the shooting.
Anyone with additional information on the March 30 incident, occurring on the 400 block of Neubert Lane, is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office at 507-304-4863. People can also report anonymously to crimestoppersmn.org. Information leading to a felony arrest may qualify the tipster for a reward.
