NEWBURYPORT — Institution for Savings President and Chief Executive Officer Michael J. Jones and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Kim Rock completed the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) this past weekend, cycling 160 miles from Wellesley to Provincetown. The 2026 ride marks the pair’s 11th consecutive year participating in the nation’s premier cycling fundraiser for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Since beginning the ride in 2016, Jones and Rock have raised more than $500,000 to support lifesaving cancer research and patient care. This year, they set a goal of raising an additional $65,000.
This year’s PMC theme, “Now, More Than Ever,” underscored the continued importance of every dollar raised to advance cancer research and improve patient care. For the 20th consecutive year, 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar will go directly to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Since 1980, the Pan-Mass Challenge has contributed more than $1.125 billion to Dana-Farber, making it the country’s most successful athletic fundraising event for charity.
Although both are avid cyclists, Jones and Rock say the ride has never been about the miles. It is deeply personal, as they have watched family members, friends, colleagues and members of the Institution for Savings family face cancer over the years, according to bank officials.
“The Pan-Mass Challenge is one of the most inspiring events we’ve ever been part of,” said Jones. “Every year we’re reminded that thousands of people come together for one reason…to support those whose lives have been touched by cancer. When someone you care about is facing this disease, you often feel powerless. Riding and fundraising are ways we can make a meaningful difference and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who supported us.”
Each year, Jones and Rock also honor those impacted by cancer by including the initials of members of their immediate and extended Institution for Savings family on their cycling jerseys, recognizing those who are battling cancer and remembering those lost to the disease.
“One of the most meaningful traditions for us is adding those initials to our jerseys,” said Rock. “They are with us every mile of the ride and serve as a constant reminder of why we’re doing this.”
