A 32-year-old inmate at the Niagara County Correctional Facility is facing a felony charge after attacking a corrections officer on Tuesday.
Jail corrections officers were attempting to get Zachary to exit his cell so that the cell could be cleaned and inspected when Zachary approached the cell door, lunged at one of the officers and struck the officer in the head with a closed fist.
The officer was taken for treatment at a local medical facility and has since been released.
Zachary was charged with one count of second-degree assault (Assault of a Correctional Officer, a Class D felony) and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
