Free vegetable, herb and flower seeds are available to gardeners of all skill levels when they stop by during patron hours at St. Peter Public Library, 601 S. Washington Ave.
The new Seed Library is designed as a community resource to promote sustainable gardening, seed saving and local food access.
Participating gardeners may “check out” seeds to grow, and if possible, replenish the library’s collection by checking in freshly harvested seeds at the end of the growing season.
“We are thrilled to launch this project, which aligns perfectly with our mission to serve as a hub for community learning and resource sharing,” Teagan Watkins, assistant library supervisor, stated in a press release.
Watkins hopes to offer educational workshops and programs throughout the year, covering topics such as seed starting, composting and organic gardening.
