Worn, torn or tattered American flags may be dropped off at William R. Witty American Legion Post 37, 229 W. Nassau St., St. Peter over the next few weeks.
Legion members will perform a flag retirement ceremony 8 p.m. June 14 in Gorman Park near the town’s community center.
Old flags also will be accepted at the site prior to the ceremony.
Offered in conjunction with national Flag Day observances, the ceremony provides a respect way to dispose of the symbols of the nation’s freedom, unity and democracy.

Old Main Village to host gathering
The senior living community Old Main Village, 301 S. Fifth St., is planning a free outdoor gathering to celebrate spring.
The Great Lawn Jam is scheduled 4-6 p.m. Thursday for family members and the public.
Reservations are requested and may be made by calling 507-388-4200.
Blue Ox Jazz Babies will provide music. Food trucks will be on site and free cotton candy and beverages served.
Attendees may bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
Styrofoam recycling offered May 30
Area residents may dispose of Styrofoam materials 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Kato Moving and Storage/Mayflower, 417 Poplar St.
Accepted materials include rigid white packaging material from appliances, televisions, computers, furniture, foam coolers, medical boxes as well as uncoated white insulation sheets and bagged packaging peanuts.
Items that won’t be accepted include plates, cups, take-out containers, meat trays, colored Styrofoam or packaging with dirt, tape or labels.

Recital series by organists set
A free series of organ music kicks off 12:10 p.m. June 2 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 222 Pfau St.
The annual summer noontime series, on Tuesdays (except June 16) through Aug. 11, is hosted by Sioux Trails Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
Chad Winterfeldt will play at the June 2 recital.

Garden tours planned
Volunteer guides will show off flowering annuals and perennials during the inaugural Nancy Zwickey Memorial Summer Garden Tour is slated June 20 in Mankato.
The free event is sponsored by Blue Earth County Master Gardeners and Mankato Area Lifelong Learners.
Donations for ECHO Food Shelf will be accepted during stops between 9 a.m. and noon at the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota’s prairie garden, 224 Lamm St., and Blue Earth County Historical Society’s gardens, 424 Warren St. Master gardeners will offer tours between 10 a.m. and noon at Glenwood Gardens, 315 Locust St.
Zwickey died in November. After her retirement from teaching, she volunteered for organizations, especially ECHO Food Shelf.
Plants that bloom in mid-summer will be featured during a second garden tour in her honor July 18.
