NEWBURYPORT — Kristine Malpica of Imagine Studios, organizer of the fourth annual Indigenous Peoples Day at Waterfront Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 14, will visit “The Morning Show” on Thursday.
Host Mary Jacobsen will interview Malpica about the importance of highlighting traditional and contemporary Indigenous cultural arts, knowledge and diversity, both regionally and nationally.
Malpica will discuss highlights of the free, family-friendly outdoor event, including musical performances by the Mi’kmaq Nation group Lonecry Drummers of Prince Edward Island, a flute concert by Nipmuc musician Hawk Henries, and a Mishoon dugout canoe presentation, launch and paddle by Wampanoag Nation speaker and carver Jonathan James Perry.
Other activities Malpica include a wampum and corn husk doll-making workshop, performances by the Wolf Cry Singers, a family art and craft table, an exhibit by sculptor Joseph Gray, and an artifact table and talk by Professor Robert Goodby of the anthropology department at Franklin Pierce University.
