WESTWOOD – Unfortunately, the 16-game unbeaten streak came to an end at the wrong time.
After coming away with two upset victories, the Cinderella Story ended on Saturday afternoon for the Methuen High boys’ soccer team.
The No. 14 seed Xaverian Hawks scored a goal in each half, to come away with a 2-0 win over the No. 35 seed Rangers, in a Division 1 Round of 16 state tournament game held at Xaverian Brothers High.
Methuen closes out the season with a 13-4-4 record, while winning the MVC Division 3 league title for the first time in 39 years. The Rangers also won two state tournament games, an overtime thriller over No. 33 seed Bishop Feehan in the preliminary round, followed by the epic upset over No. 3 seed Weymouth, both by 2-1 scores.
