HAVERHILL — The city is going green for 30 consecutive days this spring with a monthlong lineup of environmental events, community cleanups and educational programs.
On Thursday, Downtown Events Coordinator Hailey Pearson announced the city’s inaugural Earth Month, releasing a calendar packed full of activities for residents of all ages.
The celebration will be throughout the month of April featuring collaborative efforts between municipal departments, local organizations, artists and businesses.
“Programming aims to complement the Earth Day City-wide Cleanup and is designed to engage everyone of all abilities and interests,” Pearson wrote.
She added that the idea for an Earth Month grew out of community feedback. Now, folks will be able to occupy every weekend in April on conservation land or hiking trails.
The month of programming is designed to build on Haverhill’s usual centerpiece, the annual Earth Day City-wide Cleanup.
Team Haverhill will organize several cleanup events of their own, working collaboratively with schools and the Haverhill YMCA.
Essex County Greenbelt Association and Northshore Nature Programs will host educational events. The Haverhill Conservation Department and its partners will lead hands-on environmental stewardship events.
Creative Haverhill and other cultural organizations will put on series for the public during April, and the Haverhill Public Library will be host for both adult and children programming.
Residents interested in getting involved in Earth Month activities can contact Pearson at hpearson@haverhillma.gov.
