Young artists, grades PreK-12, fill in the blanks and reveal their artistic predictions of the future in “2124: Plattsburgh in 100 Years,” which runs May 4-25 in the Main Gallery at the Strand Center for the Arts located at 23 Brinkerhoff St. downtown.
Opening reception is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“It started because of the Youth Arts Bash,” Sara Acors, youth program coordinator and arts educator, said.
“I really wanted to be able to provide a youth-focused celebration for the community. Since the theater is celebrating its 100 birthday this year, I thought it would be fun to kind of tie in the 100 years into the youth exhibition. So, that’s where we got the theme from, and then the conversations have just been really entertaining and interesting to have with kids about where they think we’re going to be in 100 years.”
The young artists harbor a lot of robot-alien takeover theories of the North Country.
“We are going to be hanging this like any other exhibition that we hold,” Acors said.
“We asked parents to have their child’s work framed. It’s really exciting. The kids are pretty excited to see their stuff up in the gallery. It’s definitely going to be a smaller show compared to what we have here typically. Of course, this is the first time we’ve done this. It’s going to be a smaller show, but it still will be pretty exciting.”
The Youth Arts Bash will be held on the front lawn from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“It will be kind of adjacent to the opening of the exhibition,” Acors said.
“We are going to be on the lawn doing some interactive art activities, so kids and their families will be able to come and create some stuff to take home and it’s all going to be free to the community.”
