NEWBURYPORT — Illume Gallery at Illume Books will present “Memory as Geography,” a solo exhibition of recent paintings by artist Shana Sood, on view April through May. An opening reception will be held Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The exhibition offers a vibrant and contemplative body of work exploring identity, belonging, and cultural duality. Originally from New Delhi and now based in the United States, Sood creates portraits shaped by a life lived across cultures. Her work reflects the experience of movement and memory, where the idea of home remains layered and evolving, according to officials.
A self-taught artist, Sood developed her distinctive style in her late 30s. Her work has been exhibited at galleries across New England, including the North Shore Arts Association, Arlington Center for the Arts and the Marblehead Arts Association. She is also an anchor artist at The Patriot Place Art Gallery in Foxborough.
Illume Gallery is inside Illume Books, 10 Market Square, Newburyport.
