The Hunter Barns Memorial Scholarship was presented to seven Altamont High School seniors during the Senior Honors Program on May 6. Each recipient received a $1,375 scholarship to support their future endeavors.
The scholarship was established by Mike and Michelle Barns in memory of their son, Hunter, a 2016 graduate of ACHS. During his high school career, Hunter was an active student-athlete who participated in soccer, cross country, and track and field. His dedication to service shone brightly during his senior year when he pursued his dream of serving his country by enlisting in the United States Army National Guard.
The mission of the memorial scholarship is to honor Hunters legacy while blessing others. Thanks to donors, the Hunter Barns Memorial has been awarding scholarships annually since 2016. With this year’s presentations, the memorial has now awarded a total of 59 scholarships.
To be selected for the award, applicants were asked to write an essay titled “This I Believe.” This year’s recipients include Hope Roedl, Riley Rippetoe, Morgan Mays, Katie Tedrick, Brock Wendling, Cooper Pals and Kade Milleville.
