PELHAM — An 81-year-old Hudson man died Monday night after his vehicle collided with a utility pole on Keyes Hill Road.
Around 4:30 p.m., Pelham police and fire departments responded to the area of 27 Keyes Hill Road for reports of a single motor vehicle crash into a utility pole with live wires down on the vehicle, fire officials said.
When first responders arrived, they found the lone occupant of the vehicle unconscious, in serious condition and entrapped inside his 2008 Lincoln MKZ.
Liberty Utilities was contacted to cut power to the area before first responders could attempt to extricate the man. After 19 minutes of significant extrication efforts, the occupant was removed from the vehicle, provided Advance Life Support care and transported to a local-area hospital with life threatening injuries.
He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead Monday evening.
Keyes Hill Road was closed between the areas of Mammoth and Castle Hill roads from the time of the incident until around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning as crews worked to restore power to the area and clean up the scene.
Pelham police and fire departments were assisted by the Hudson Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing.
