TRAVERSE CITY — Housing North named Carolyn Fairman as its new executive director.
The nonprofit’s board announced the hire Wednesday. Fairman replaces former director Yarrow Brown, who became the executive director of Generations Ahead in February after five years with the housing organization.
Fairman most recently was chief operating officer of CIERTO, a nonprofit that helps employers navigate federal H-2A, H-2B and other temporary hiring programs. She has also worked with Reading Village, the United Farm Workers, the Specialty Coffee Association of America and Coffee Kids.
With Housing North, Fairman will work closely with local governments, employers, developers, community organizations, and residents to support policies and initiatives that increase housing opportunities for people at all income levels, with aims of increasing awareness of regional housing challenges, strengthen partnerships across sectors, and expanding organizational capacity to advance housing solutions, according to the nonprofit’s statement.
Fairman received master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Latin American studies from University of New Mexico and University of Arizona. She is from Grand Rapids, according to her LinkedIn profile.
