Hoops for Heroes basketball benefit scheduled for March 7 at Pine Eden
The annual Hoops for Heroes 3-on-3 basketball fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, March 7 at the Pine Eden Baptist Church in Crossville.
The event is sponsored by the Corban Scott Goad Memorial Foundation and Chester Goad. The tournament is open to players 16 years of age and older.
Registration and check-in for teams will begin at 10 a.m. with competition beginning at 11 a.m. Defending champions, Load Management Committee, including, Derek Solomon, is registered to play.
Corban Scott Goad passed away in a tragic accident in 2022.

Registration open for annual County Music Golf Tournament
The annual County Wide Music Programs Golf Tournament Fundraiser is scheduled to take place March 28 at the Heatherhurst Brae Golf Course.
The event is limited to the first 36 teams and is being held in memory of Jeff Shaw. It is a four-person scramble with two flights. The fee is $100 per person or $400 per team and that includes green fees, cart, lunch, mulligan and prizes.
The first place team in each flight will win $300 with the second place team getting $150. Checks should be made out to: Fairfield Glade Community Club/Music Programs Tournament. The checks should be mailed to Fairfield Glade Community Club, C/O Jeff Houston, P.O. Box 2000, Crossville, TN, 38558.

Character Banquet set for April 11
The Crossville Cumberland County Sports and Events Council will have the annual Character Banquet April 11. The event honors student athletes at Stone Memorial and Cumberland County High Schools.
The banquet will begin at 6 p.m. at the Community Complex. The keynote speaker will be University of Tennessee basketball All-American and cancer survivor Chris Lofton.

Tiger Prowl 5K seeking runners
The annual Tiger Prowl 5K run will be held March 14 in Sunbright. The race will take place on Burrville Road in front of the school.
The registration fee is $30 and all proceeds will benefit the Sunbright High School track team. T-shirts and finisher medals are available. Sportsmen are reminded that a free permit is required to participate in the 2026 Light Goose Conservation season, which will be held Feb. 15-March 31. Hunters can claim their free permit at GoOutdoorsTennessee.com.
Goose conservation season open
The Light Goose Conservation season is for Blue, Snow, and Ross’s geese. The following provisions apply during the Light Goose Season only:
Unplugged shotguns and electronic calls are allowed.Shooting is allowed 30 minutes before official sunrise until 30 minutes after official sunset.There is no daily bag or possession limit during this season.
No federal or state waterfowl stamps are required to hunt during the conservation season. Hunters must possess a Light Goose Conservation Season permit and have a valid Tennessee hunting license or a hunting license from any state. A post-season survey is required to collect basic hunter participation and effort information, as mandated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for Tennessee to participate in this extended season.
Tournament tickets available for CCHS boys sectional tourney
The Cumberland County High School boys basketball team is still in the running for a spot in the upcoming state championships.
The Jets will open play in the sectional championship on Monday. Cumberland County will play either Alcoa or Red Bank.
Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
