Amesbury is starting to play its best hockey at the most opportune time.
Heading into Saturday’s game, the Redhawks had won three straight, with their latest victory coming over a Lunenberg team that had just one loss at the time. But arguably their toughest test during this stretch was waiting for the weekend, and a trip over to play a Lynnfield squad ranked No. 4 in Division 3.
So how would they hold up?
Well, as it turns out, pretty good. Amesbury has continued to look better and better over the past couple of weeks, and put together another strong 45 minutes on Saturday to upset Lynnfield on the road, 6-4. It’s the fourth win in a row for the surging Redhawks (6-5-0), who themselves have jumped up to No. 31 in the latest Division 2 rankings.
Two-time Daily News All-Star Bodie Marcotte led the way with three goals and an assist, and Matt Venturi had a monster day with a goal and four helpers. Joey Duggan added a goal and three assists, Ben Richard scored and both Maddox LeBlanc and Wes Ackerman also had assists. But arguably the brightest sign for Amesbury was freshman goalie Colin Dyer having one of his best outings with 32 saves.
And it’s only going to get tougher.
Up next, if the Redhawks want to make it five in a row, they’ll have to beat Triton on Wednesday.
NEWBURYPORT GIRLS FALL IN HIGH-SCORING CONTEST
The Newburyport girls were similarly on a nice winning-streak heading into Saturday’s game, having rattled off three straight.
But four wasn’t to be.
The Clippers kept up with a high-scoring Gloucester team for most of the night, but would come up just short in a 7-5 setback. Both Olivia Wilson and Maddie Noury scored twice for the home team — which led 5-4 after the second period — and Mackenzie Riley had the final goal.
The good news, however, is that Newburyport (3-8-0) was inside of the Division 2 playoff field in the latest rankings at No. 28. The Clippers will look to get back on the winning track when they travel to play Beverly on Wednesday.
