You don’t want to get in Amesbury’s way right now.
For basically the last month, wherever the Redhawks have traveled, they’ve left a pile of destruction in their path. and what that looked like on Wednesday night was the team’s seventh straight victory, as the Redhawks went on the road and cruised to a win over North Reading, 7-2.
If you want to get a sense of how the game went, it was 4-0 after the first period.
Junior forward Bodie Marcotte, the Daily News area’s leading scorer, kept his hot streak going with two goals and an assist. Senior captain Matt Venturi scored a goal and had an impressive four assists, while Joey Duggan chipped in a goal and two helpers. Amesbury also got tallies from Maddox LeBlanc, Thomas McElaney and Lincoln Kime.
Freshman goalie Collin Dyer didn’t get his number called too often with the defense playing well in front, but he still made 15 stops.
Amesbury (9-5-0) was ranked at No. 24 in the lastest Division 2 rankings, but is in line to jump up when the newest version comes out on Friday.
TRITON PICKS UP MUCH-NEEDED VICTORY
At this point, Triton just needed to stem the tide.
The Vikings had found themselves ranked as highly as No. 4 in Division 3 not just two weeks ago, but entered Wednesday’s contest on a three-game skid and having lost four of their last five. Any sort of positive momentum, no matter how or who it came from, would be a welcomed site.
And they thankfully got it done.
Thanks to two goals and an assist from junior Connor Rumph, Triton was able to get back on the winning train with a 5-2 victory over Bishop Fenwick at the Graf. The Vikings (9-9-0) trailed 2-0 at one point in the first period, but scored five unanswered goals to close out the game.
Senior captainJack Lindholm scored a goal and had two assists, and both Aiden Szymanski and Vinny Magee found the back of the net as well. Michael Taylor, Mason Colby and Cam Neary also had helpers, and junior goalie Gavin Marengi put together another solid performance in net.
Triton, which found itself at No. 10 in the latest ranking, will try to make it two in a row when it hosts North Reading on Saturday (5 p.m.).
THE ‘NEWBURYPORT TRAIN’ KEEPS ON ROLLING
Of course, another team that’s red-hot right now — and well-conditioned — is Newburyport.
Wednesday’s second night of a back-to-back didn’t faze the Clippers one bit, as the team followed up a 3-2 victory over B.C. High the day before with a comfortable win over Pentucket, 6-2. Like their crosstown football rivals, the Clippers (13-3-1) have also won seven in a row, and are sitting pretty at No. 5 in the latest Division 2 rankings.
And on Wednesday, no time was wasted.
Newburyport grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first period off goals from Jackson DeVivo, LukeMacIsaac and Mason Childs, and didn’t look back from there. A tally from Finn McNeil helped to steady out a two-goal second period for Pentucket (3-12-1), and DeVivo would net his second of the game before Owen Kreuz finished up the scoring. Will Palermino led the way with two assists, and Graham Luskin, Jack Sullivan, Kane Brennan, Colby Arel, Caden Eiserman, Michael Dunphy, and Hayden Wilson all had helpers as well.
And now, the big test.
On Saturday, Newburyport will travel down to take on the No. 1 team in Division 1, St. John’s Prep, in the 16th annual Derek Hines Memorial Game. Puck drop is set for 2:20 p.m., and you could image a win bumping the Clippers up in the rankings big time.
