Did You Know?
All but two of Beverly’s all-time wins (and one loss) came before 1900. The school did have a football program in the late 1890s that played various alumni clubs and other non-sanctioned teams, but the only ‘official’ games in our Salem News archives include triumphs over Salem High in 1891 and 1895, as well as a loss to those same Witches in 1896.

1. Roy Norden. Longest tenured head coach (16 years from 1959-74) in BHS history finished with an overall mark of 87-52-4, with four unbeaten squads during his tenure.
2. Bill Hamor. In his 12 seasons (1978-89), Hamor made Beverly the North Shore’s best team of the 1980s while winning NEC titles in 1984, ‘85 and 1988 and going to the 1988 Super Bowl.
3. Dan Bauer. Led Beverly to a pair of Super Bowl victories in 2010 and, in the best season in school history, a 13-0 mark in 2012. Won 89 games in his 13 seasons (2003-15).
Five All-Time Program Greats
1. Flavio Tosi. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound excellent two-way end from Class of 1929 went on to become an All-American at Boston College and became first Eagle to play in the NFL, doing so with the Boston Redskins.
2. Robbie Robinson. Playing during the war time years of 1943-45, he was a do-it-all star who played quarterback, defensive back and could kick, earning All-Scholastic honors as a senior and went on play in both the Gator Bowl for Missouri and the Orange Bowl for Georgia Tech.
3. David ‘Bippy’ Manuel. Elusive speed demon at quarterback and halfback led Panther squads that had a combined 25-2 record in his three seasons, winning the Class A state title in 1960 and sharing it with Everett in 1962.
4. David Tomeo. Mercurial back was a tri-captain on the 9-0-0 juggernaut of 1964, an All-Scholastic who put up monster numbers out of the backfield and led Class A in scoring before eventually becoming a Hall of Famer at the University of Tampa.
5. Pat Bailey. Leading rusher in school history with 3,684 yards and scored 45 touchdowns to go with 272 points and was a two-time Salem News and Northeastern Conference Player of the Year winner while also capturing Salem News Student-Athlete of the Year accolades in 2007.

The Orange-and-Black also defeated Manchester twice (17-0 and 17-15), and shut out Dorchester (6-0).
