With a state title on the line, Salem’s Lisa Chevaire was nothing short of brilliant.
Chevaire won two individual events, on the way to winning the all-around title with a 38.50 at the NHIAA Gymnastics Championship on Saturday. Pinkerton won the team title.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity that the NHIAA gives to all the gymnasts in the state to compete for their school,” said Chevaire, who won the vault (9.750) and bars (9.675), was third in the beam (9.30) and ninth in the floor exercise (9.325).
“(The meet) was fun, energizing, and personally fulfilling to be the New Hampshire state champion my senior year in high school. Thank you to my coaches, and family for all of your endless help guidance and support. And a special shout out to A2 Gymnastics (in Salem) for hosting the competition.”
Chevaire will next compete at Rutgers.
“Our first event was beam, so once she hit her routine the rest of the meet was smooth sailing,” said Blue Devils coach Lilly Oliveri. “Lisa has a fun floor routine with big skills. It’s not only fun to watch her vault, but see everyone else stop what they’re doing to watch as well. At the time I didn’t know it, but she had set the state record! We ended the day on bars. Her bar routine is one big skill after another, ending with a double back that she stuck as well. Lisa is an amazing gymnast.”
The team title went to Pinkerton, who scored 37.275, besting Salem (36.625). Timberlane was sixth (35.475).
Leading the Astros was Abigail Lee, who was second in the bars (9.50) and fourth in the vault (9.325). Rebecca King was third in the bars (9.425) and third in the floor exercise (9.45).
Timberlane’s Kasey Fitzgerald won the floor exercise (9.55).
Pelham’s Aleena Cunha was fourth in the all-around (36.475) and second in the beam (9.325).
