Pinkerton 62, Nashua South 44Astro Elizabeth Lavoie made history, reaching 1,000 points for her varsity career.
Lavoie needed 17 points to reach the mark, and blew past that, tallying 26 points on the night.
A returning Eagle-Tribune Super Teamer, UNH recruit Lavoie becomes the sixth Pinkerton girl to score 1,000 career points.
“Liz has earned every point of her 1,000,” said Astros head coach Lani Buskey. “Her work ethic, leadership, and overall attitude towards our team and program have made us the success we are. Liz is one of the greatest Lady Astros to don the jersey and coaching her has been one of the greatest privileges of my career.”
Whittier 67, Lynn Tech 50
The Wildcats opened the game 0 for 10, but hard pressure brought them back into the contest, taking control with a 27-point second quarter on Wednesday. Whittier’s leading scorer Angel Efosa had 19 points, eight steals and eight rebounds, and freshman Kelley Vigneaux had 11 points and six steals to spark winners. Coming off the bench was Vanessa Lawrence Taylor, who scored 10 points while Wilmari Valera had 12 assists.
Boys Basketball
Whittier 64, Minuteman 49Whittier got off to a hot start in the first half, hitting six 3-pointers. The Wildcats were led by Zayden Goicochea (16 points) and Jayvian Rosario (15 points). Kayden Adrien-Moise chipped in 12 points and dominated the glass.
Pelham 54, Souhegan 47Dom Herrling scored a team-high 18 points, while Jake Dumont added 11 points for the winners.
Gymnastics
Central Catholic 149.75, North Andover 139.85Central Catholic broke two program records in Thursday night’s victory over Merrimack Valley Conference rival North Andover.
The team’s 149.75 score is the highest ever in a dual meet, while Zinnia Hopkinson broke the school record in the bars with a 9.8 score. She also added a 9.6 on the floor exercise.
Sophie Tressler had a very impressive night with top scores in three of the four events, with a 9.7 on the vault, a 9.5 on the beam and a 9.7 on the floor, while she was second on the bars with a 9.7.
Haverhill 128.65, Lowell 101.6
Liv Melo won the all-around (36.05), bars (8.5) and beam (9.45) and was second in the floor exercise (8.95) and vault (9.15) to lead the winners on Wednesday.
Boys Hockey
Central Catholic 4, Lincoln-Sudbury 0Cam Duval gave the Raiders the lead with a first period goal. The 1-0 advantage held up until Brady Rickenbach struck for two goals and Adam Godfrey added a score in the third period to ice the win on Wednesday.
Londonderry 8, Pinkerton 2Scoring goals for the Astros were Preston Libby and Joe Phillips.
Wrestling
Salem 39, Concord 24Salem improved to 14-5 on Wednesday night. Big wins for the Blue Devils included Spencer Buscema at 132 (dec. 10-8), Reilly O’Brien at 144 (dec. 4-0), Cameron Monahan at 150 (dec. 7-5) and Trevor O’Brien at 113 (fall, 1:56).
Brooks School 36, Thayer Academy 21Scoring wins on the mat for Brooks were Brooks Hawkins at 132 (fall, 0:47) and Aiden Crott at 157 (fall, 1:47). The rest of the team’s wins were forfeits.
