Boys Southeast Whitfield 2, Northwest Whitfield 1
Southeast Whitfield (5-4) defeated rival Northwest Whitfield (3-5-3) 2-1 Tuesday night.
A Southeast goal by Joseph Pina, who redirected the ball in with a header with 26:26 left in the first half, put the Raiders on the board first, and the 1-0 score held until halftime.
Northwest and Southeast exchanged goals in the second, but Southeast came out on top 2-1.
Jairo Garcia put in the second-half goal for Southeast, while Anthony Rodriguez scored the Northwest goal off an assist from Chris Tapia.
Northwest will try to bounce back from its second straight loss when the Bruins host Harrison Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Southeast is now riding a five-game win streak after an 0-4 start marked with tough competition and a few injuries. The Raiders play at Ringgold’s Heritage on Friday at 7 p.m.
Dalton 3, Coahulla Creek 0
Dalton (7-3-1) scored three second-half goals to move past Coahulla Creek (6-4-1) 3-0 Tuesday in a battle of defending state champs from Whitfield County.
Defending Class 3A champion Coahulla Creek played 5A champ Dalton to a scoreless tie at half, but the Catamounts broke loose for three goals to put the Colts away.
Angel Salaises scored the first Dalton goal, then Ivan Rodriguez made it 2-0.
Salaises put in the final goal off an assist from Ruben Gongora.
Dalton hosts region opponent Woodland Friday at 7:30 p.m., while Creek is at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Dalton Academy 10, Dade County 0
Dalton Academy (9-1) shut out Region 7-A DI opponent Dade County (2-5) 10-0 on Tuesday.
Andy Reynoso poured in four goals, while TDA’s Joe Gonzalez also tallied a hat trick with three. Dani Pere, Roani Ramirez and Rocael Aguilar each scored a goal. Gonzalez put up three assists to go with the three goals. Perez had two, and Geovanny Nolasco, Derick Ulloa, Jesus Arellano and Eduardo Vasquez each had an assist.
The Pumas will play for a ninth straight win when Dalton Academy plays at Armuchee on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Christian Heritage 4, Mt. Zion 2
Christian Heritage (3-4) knocked off Mt. Zion (3-3) 4-2 Tuesday night behind Carson Russell’s three goals.
Jose Ojeda assisted on two Russell goals and put in the fourth Lion goal himself.
The Lions play at Ridgeland Thursday at 7 p.m.
Fannin County 4, North Murray 0
North Murray (3-5) was downed 4-0 by Fannin County (5-3) Tuesday.
The Mountaineers host Model Friday night at 7.
Girls Northwest Whitfield 4, Southeast Whitfield 1
Northwest Whitfield (7-2-1) handed Southeast Whitfield (6-1) its first loss of the season Tuesday night, beating its rivals 4-1.
Northwest led 1-0 at halftime, scored an early goal in the second half, then added two more goals to make the lead 4-0. Sadie Clark scored the first half goal, then put in another early in the second. Jazmin Cortes scored the third Lady Bruin goal with 22 minutes left, chipping the ball over the Southeast keeper. Yuli Herreda rocketed in the last Northwest goal with 4:58 left.
Clark and Herreda were each credited with an assist.
Karen Garcia scored the Southeast goal, getting the Lady Raiders on the board with three minutes to play.
Southeast plays at Ringgold’s Heritage on Friday at 5 p.m., while Northwest will host Harrison Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Christian Heritage 1, Mt. Zion 0
A penalty kick by Andi Bolger lifted Christian Heritage (2-4) over Mt. Zion (2-4) 1-0 Tuesday night.
The Lady Lions play at Ridgeland Thursday at 5 p.m.
Fannin County 8, North Murray 1
North Murray (3-4) dropped Tuesday’s game at Fannin County (4-4) 8-1.
North Murray hosts Model on Friday at 5 p.m.
