OTEGO – Xander Johnson scored a game-high 27 points as host Unatego/Franklin kept its perch atop the Midstate Athletic Conference boys basketball standings with a 68-49 win over Oxford Academy on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
The Spartan-Devils scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed. After the Blackhawks cut the lead to 20-18, U/F went on a 9-0 run for a 29-18 second-quarter lead.
U/F led at halftime, 38-24, then opened the third quarter on a 7-2 run. Oxford never looked comfortable in its offensive set, while U/F scored inside, outside and in transition, leading by as many as 23 points in the second half.
Nic Dodzweit and Gordon Smith each scored 12 points for the Blackhawks, which also got 11 points from Bennett Paden.
Brock Birdsall scored 10 points for U/F, which also got eight points from Rashad Kiel and seven points from Kaiden Legree.
Oxford Academy (10-6, 6-2) hosts Deposit/Hancock for a MAC game Thursday, Feb. 5.
Unatego/Franklin (13-3, 7-1) plays a non-league game Thursday at Johnson City.

Miles Nelen scored a game-high 27 points as Cooperstown beat S-E in a Center State Conference Division III game Tuesday at Red Bursey Gymnasium.
Cooperstown led at halftime, 52-31.
Ben Lewis had a career high 10 points and also had 10 rebounds and five blocks for the Hawkeyes, which also got 18 points and 10 rebounds from Jackson Crisman and 13 points from Brody Murdock.
Nelen also had 7 assists.
Bryce Belavaqua scored 12 points to lead Sherburne-Earlville (6-11, 2-5).
Cooperstown (17-0, 8-0) will host Morrisville-Eaton for Senior Night on Friday, Feb. 6, at Red Bursey Gymnasium.

Darren Ruiz scored a team high 16 points as the Raiders won a Tri-Valley League game at home Tuesday against Sharon Springs.
G-MU led at halftime, 22-21, then outscore the Spartans in the third quarter, 19-13.
Michael Cashman scored 19 points to lead Sharon Springs, which also got 12 points from Kyran Krebs.
Koda Stockdale and Kyle Keuhn each scored eight points for G-MU, which made eight three-point baskets.
Sharon Springs (5-10, 4-4) hosts Morris for a TVL game Thursday.

Greyson Thomas had 21 points and 13 rebounds for D/H, which also got 18 points and 17 rebounds from Jacoby Mapes.
Gavin Ely scored a game-high 27 points for Greene, which also got 16 points from Eli Eggleston and 12 points from Jacob Eroshevich.

Greene/Oxford 41, Sidney 36
Kade Mustin got a technical fall and G/O got five forfeits to help power a Midstate Athletic Conference non-division win over Sidney on Tuesday in Greene.
Mustin won 18-2 over Donavin Eggleston at 138 pounds.
G/O also won at 285 pounds as Donte Wrench pinned Nathan Strauss in 25 seconds.
Sidney got pinfall wins by Kellen Begeal at 126 pounds, Broc Higley at 132 pounds, Anthony Botte at 144 points and Ian MacPherson at 150 pounds.
G/O received points on five of the seven forfeits, with a double forfeit at 103.
Both teams will compete in Section IV Division II qualifiers Saturday.
