The combination of Jake Sullo and Eddie Charity combined for the shutout, while giving up two hits and striking out 14. Sullo went the first four innings, walked four and struck out seven, and gave way to Charity, who gave up two hits and struck out seven over his three innings of work.
Offensively, Sullo was 3 for 4, while, Paul Armstrong, Josh Martino and Chris Brearely each drove in a run.
Haverhill 7, Newburyport 4
Jack Kellerher pitched 7 innings striking out 9 batters in leading the Hillies to a season opening non-league win. The offense was led by Jeremy Aquino, Matt Aquino, Kellerher, Zach Hurrell, and Brendon Piraino all contributing 1 RBI each.
Beverly 8, Methuen 4
Five errors doomed the Rangers, who fell to 0-2 despite jumping to a 3-1 lead early. Joey Tavares had two of Methuen’s seven hits.
Pinkerton 8, Alvirne 1
Leo Boucher fanned six in four innings of work for the win on the mound for the Astros. Jackson Marshall homered, while Josh Jones and Eli Sharp each drove in a pair of runs.

Methuen 10, Lowell Catholic 0
In the season and home opener, senior captain Mackenzie Yirrell had a complete game 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Rangers to the win. Senior captains Ari Baez and Kiele Coleman each had 3 hits, while junior Ella Hayes and sophomore Adriana Delaney had 2 apiece. Hayes had 3 RBI and Delaney had a solo home run.
Greater Lawrence Tech 7, Salem 6
Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh, the Reggies rallied for the walkoff win when Jashley Lopez singled in pinch-runner Vanessa Dionicio.
Mya German, in her GLT debut, had three hits and four RBIs. Lopez and winning pitcher Sam Nasella had two hits apiece.
Nasella struck out 16 and allowed just five hits.
Pinkerton 9, Alvirne 0
Madi Cunha spun a two-hitter with nine strikeouts for the victory. Brielle Foote homered and drove in a pair. Jennie Hiscox singled and tripled, while Avery Carvalho had a pair of Astro hits.
Boys Tennis
Haverhill 3, Methuen 2
In a terrific back-and-forth MVC match, the Hillies came away with the victory. Oscar Andren and Miles Stapel came away with singles victories, while the team of Jackson Morin and Mike Kmenta won their doubles match.
For Methuen, winners were Dawson Burke at singles and then Isaac Gillespie and James Touma at doubles.
Dover 5, Pinkerton 4
Anthony Terrile and Killian Mahon scored victories in singles for the Astros. Landon Sprague team with Terrile to win at first doubles, and Arav Mahajan and Noah Antonellis took the second doubles win.
Derryfield 8, Salem 1
Matthew Harding and Dylan Coyle teamed up for a doubles win, the lone Salem victory in the opener.
Central Catholic 3, North Andover 2
A day after losing 5-0 to a very talented Westford Academy team, Central edged out their MVC rivals for a hard-earned win. In singles play, Arnav Lele and Jack Makiej came away with two set wins, as did the doubles team of James Diamantis and Ryan Melesky.
For North Andover, Keshar Mahadavan won in straight sets at third singles and so did the second doubles team of Prabhar Joginipally and Max Polansky.
Andover 5, Chelmsford 0
Akarsh Janarthanan set the tone with a sparkling win at No. 1, and the Warriors followed suit with the shutout win. Conor Rea and Sam Gomer strolled at No. 2 and 3, while Hridai Daran-Aarit Chauhan and Owen Finlay-Ricky Tran were victorious in doubles.
Westford Academy 3, Andover 2
On Tuesday, the Golden Warriors put up a terrific fight against one of the state’s top teams. The two doubles teams of Gomer and Peter Doan and then Dharan and Tran won their matches.

Tanvi Patel, Breena Lawrence and Liv Lawrence had the wins in singles, while Jillian McSweeney-Echo Larochelle and Jaylen Marsh-Rachel Schena were the winning doubles tandems.
Methuen 5, Lowell 0
On Tuesday, the Rangers swept the Raiders behind singles wins again from Patel and the Lawrence sisters, as well as the doubles teams of Mia Donofrio and McSweeney, and Larochelle and Schena.
Andover 4, Central Catholic 1
Sonika Chaudhary and Mia Thomas scored straight set singles wins for the Warriors, while the teams of Elysia Yu-Caitlin Croll and Hila Berman-Celeste Miner stood tall in doubles.
Central’s Kaya Asmar won the No. 3 singles match to prevent the shutout.
Andover 5, Tewksbury 0
On Tuesday, the Golden Warriors blanked the Redmen with Chaudhary, Thomas and Valerie Chu won their singles matches, while, Miner/Croll and Berman/Munot took their doubles matches.
North Andover 3, Chelmsford 2
Tika Roy, Sophia Yi and Jocelyn Jankowski swept the singles, powering the Knights, who improved to 2-1 on the year.
Academy of Notre Dame 3, Haverhill 2
Winning their matches for the Hillies (1-1) included Meredith Amirian and Abby Brownrigg both in straight sets.

Andover 3, Central Catholic 0
Griffin Connell led the winners, now 3-1, with 13 kills, five digs and two blocks. Marco Gomez Cabo dished out 31 assists with six aces and four kills. Noah Chanthaboun served 20 points with eight aces.
Michael Nguyen had 25 assists, 11 digs and 10 service points to pace the Raiders, while Jaithian Medina smacked 11 kills.
Greater Lawrence Tech 3, KIPP 1
Anthony Rubim paced the Reggies, now 3-2, with 17 assists and 13 digs. Janiel Vizcaino (13 service points), Aldenis Naula (4 aces), Keegan Doherty (4 aces) and Kelvince Heang (9 kills, 4 blocks) delivered strong performances in the victory.
Lowell 3, Haverhill 1
Mason Holmes had seven kills for the Hillies with four service aces. Blake Garrison passed out 18 assists, and Gabe Batista pitched in four digs.
Chelmsford 3, Lawrence 0
Nilson Perez scored six kills for the Lancers, who fall to 1-3 on the year. Joshua Joaquin had 15 assists and Julian Rivera delivered eight digs.
Methuen 3, North Andover 1
Methuen came away with the four-set win (17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-17). Playing well for the Scarlet Knights included Gyan Mistry (19 kills), Bobby Gilbert (7 kills), Carson Wong (34 assists and 3 blocks), Jake O’Neil (3 blocks), Prady Mistry (14 digs) and Ernest Kim (2 aces).
Timberlane 3, Pinkerton 2
The Owls took the fifth and deciding game in this marathon, 15-9. Tyler Merrill and Spencer Sierra combined for 28 kills in the victory. Billy Shanley passed out 32 assists, while Cam Nazarian (14 digs) and Jack Mottram (2 blocks) keyed the win.
For the Astros, Trey Baker had 20 kills, while Kaden Layne added 13 kills and 13 digs. Ben Koelb passed out a dozen assists, and Parker Townsend had seven blocks.
Boys Lacrosse
Methuen 17, Lowell 1
The Rangers improved to 2-0 with a dominating league victory over the Red Raiders. Leading the way offensively included Jared Cripps with 6 goals and 2 assists, Joey Casarano with 4 goals and 4 assists, Brady Kloster with 3 goals and 2 assists and Owen Howell with 2 goals and 1 assist. Desmond Czismadia was perfect on faceoffs, winning all 19.
Timberlane 17, Nashua North 3
Landon Petry led the winners with four goals in the season opener. Jack Condon and Mike Savage each scored three times. Austin Charest and Rocco Psareas had two apiece. Mark St. Jean dominated faceoffs, winning 15 out of 17.
Windham 15, Souhegan 6
The Jaguars were led by the trio Josh Trudel (3 goals, 2 assists), Nate Crowley (2 goals, 3 assists) and Sam Kramer (2 goals, 2 assists).
Timberlane 17, Spaulding 5
The Owls dominated from the get-go led by the performances of Rocco Psareas (5 goals, 1 assist), Landon Petry (3 goals, 3 assists), Jack Condon (2 goals, 3 assists), Mike Savage (3 goals) and Brayden Gillespie (2 goals). Mark St Jean finished 14-1 on faceoff draws.
Pinkerton Academy 20, Manchester Memorial 2
Nine different players found the back of the net for the Astros including Adam Scala (4), Ricky Wong (3), Cole Summers (3), Matt Gormady (3), Jimmy Erickson (2), Jeff Gormady (2), and Matt Morrison, Ben Quintiliani and Dylan Stingel with one each. Dishing out multiple assists included Summers (4) and Wong (2).
Goalie Owen Perkins made 2 saves and the trio of Alex Tsetseranos, Stingel and Aiden Jones won 19 of 20 draws.
Dracut 13, Haverhill 5
The Hillies were defeated by a strong Dracut team. Playing well in the loss were Jake Staples with three goals, while Patrick McGowan and Ty Lescord both had a goal and two assists. Goalie Aiden McDonaugh was busy, making 21 saves.
Girls Lacrosse
Methuen 15, Lowell 3
The Rangers (2-2) made quick work of Lowell thanks to four goals by Brook Carter, three by Kiera Fitzpatrick and two each from Ava McKenna and Kate Fitzpatrick. Rounding out the scoring with one goal each included Elizabeth Descheneaux, MJ Petisce, Kaya Sweder and Hanane Aboutoui, the latter two their first in their careers.
North Andover 13, Peabody 8
The Scarlet Knights got past Peabody in a non-league game. Isa Robinson paced the offense with 4 goals, while, Janie Papell, Meghan Daley and Avery Brown had 2 each. Gray Downer, Halle Crawford and Sophia Fina had one. Daley and Brown had 2 assists each. Papell (1 assist) and Maisie Wood had three draw controls each. Sam Melville made 9 saves to earn the win.
North Andover 8, Belmont 6
On Monday, Papell scored four goals and Robinson had three for the winners. Daley secured three draw controls and Melville came up with nine big stops for the win in goal.
Saint Thomas 20, Pelham 4
Ella Desimone had two goals, while Jess Phillips and Jillian LeBlanc had single goals for the Pythons.
Portsmouth 11, Pinkerton 9
Hailey Schnider and Hannah Lisauskas (3 assists) each had three goals for the Astros, who held a 5-4 halftime lead. Delaney Summer, Piper Knowlton and Natalie Paradzick had single goals. Sara DiClemente made 10 saves, and Paige Fenner added a pair.

It was all Windham from start to finish. Chloe Hall led the attack with 6 goals and 2 assists, while Sophia Ponzini had 4 goals and 2 assists. Ella Gallinelli added 2 goals and 2 assists, Mia Gallinelli had 2 goals, while, Darby Madden and Casey Dolliver had 2 assists each. Goalie Jaidyn Seitzer turned away three shots to earn the win.
Dover 16, Salem 7
In the losing effort, Katie Wood had four of Salem’s goals, while, Shea Briody, Madeline Hannon and Lily George had one each. Olivia Schoenrock and Zeynep Yildirim each made 5 saves in net.
Dexter Southfield 13, Brooks 12
Brooks was edged out in a NE Prep game to fall to 2-2 on the season. Both Lydia Tangney and Tilly Crosby had 5 goals each in the losing effort. Goalie Ella Phillips made 7 saves.
Central Catholic 16, Andover 7
The Raiders’ offense was clicking on all cylinders as they defeated their MVC rivals.
Haverhill 16, Dracut 6
Alex Bushey found the back of the net five times to lead the Hillies to a season opening win. Sophia Riley added four goals, while, Sydney Spencer and Mikaela Tzortzis had two each. Riley and Spencer added had two helpers each. Goalie Keira Bushey made 12 saves.

Timberlane competed in a tri-meet at Merrimack High School. Daniele Bates had a busy day as she won the high jump (5-3) and was third in both the triple jump (28-11.50) and 100-meter hurdles (18.19). Also placing in three events was Emerson Aprile, who was second in the long jump (14-9) and third in both the 100 (13.30) and 200 (27.96).
Kiersten MacKeen picked up a second in the triple jump (31-1) and a third in the high jump (4-8), while, Sophia Sayers won the 800 (2:38.91) and Bella Johnson was third in the long jump (14-1).

For the Owls, Parker Gleckman was first in the long jump (19-0) and third in both the high jump (5-4) and 200 (24.55). Hunter Beaudoin also earned a third place in the 400 (52.21).
Finally both the 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams finished second. The 4×100 team of Spencer Brien, Chase Dempsey, Nate Olsen, Troy Stoddard finished at 48.90 and the 4×200 team of Cam Pettengill, Andrew Russell, Jacob Berardinangelo, Hunter Beaudoin had a combined time of 3:49.56.
