Lawrence 18, Central Catholic 8
Lawrence led 5-0, only to give up seven runs in the top of the third, before adding two to tie it at 7-7. Central went ahead 8-7 before Lawrence scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to break the game wide open.
Offensively for the Lancers, Jose Abreu was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and a RBI. David Manon finished 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles while he scored three times. Luis Arias and Will Perez both went 3 for 3 and combined to score three runs and knock in three others. Christian Reynoso was terrific in relief tossing 3.1 innings, giving up one earned run.
For Central, Jake Bartlett was the lone hitter with multiple hits with two.
Haverhill 4, Reading 3
Matt Aquino belted a walk-off two-run home run, his second round tripper of the season, to propel the Hillies (6-4) to the dramatic non-league victory. Tucker Grant scored three runs from the lead-off spot and Jeremy Aquino added two hits and drove in two runs.
North Andover 4, Lowell 2
Dom Pefine went six innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits, walking two and striking out five. Dylan Lawrence tossed a scoreless seventh inning. Offensively, Lawrence and Troy Takesian had two hits each and combined to drive in three, while Colin Howard roped an RBI single off the bench.
Chelmsford 11, Andover 9
The Golden Warriors had the bases loaded with two outs in the seventh, and Chelmsford’s Finn Ramseyer came out of the bullpen and nailed the game shut when he picked off the runner at second base.
Whittier Tech 10, Greater Lawrence 1
Logann Hatin went the first 4.1 innings on the mound giving up one earned run while striking out four to earn the win. He added a double and two RBIs. Will King finished 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles, while Keegan Koch stole four bases.
Bedford 6, Salem 4
Dom Toscano led the offense with two singles and a double with an RBI. Aaron Masson had two hits. Elias Mercedes and Patrick Ross each had a double and a RBI. Masson struck out eight in the loss.
Pelham 5, Coe-Brown 1
The 6-2 Pythons got a 12-strikeout complete game Henry Paquette. He added two hits, while Zach James had two RBIs and Kevin Hardy had two hits.
Pinkerton 11, Trinity 1
Leo Boucher went five innings, giving up one earned run on three hits, striking out four for the win. Jake Adrien pitched the final inning. Elijah Sharp was 3 for 4 with a double and a RBI, Jackson Marshall got on base all four times including a home run, three runs scored, an RBI and two walks. Brendan Horne added two hits and two RBIs.
Merrimack 14, Timberlane 3
Mikey Santosuosso went 2 for 3, and Shaun Ingram had his first varsity hit for the Owls.
Softball
Greater Lawrence 10, Nashoba Tech 0
Sam Nasella spun the one-hit shutout, striking out nine, and provided all the offense she would need with a grand slam. Tyre’Anna Metheny had three hits in her first varsity start for the 5-4 Reggies.
Windham 6, Alvirne 0
Junior Claire Ballard pitched a complete-game four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts. Ballard, Kelly Wright, and Ari DeCotis each chipped in with two hits each. Anna Mitrou had a hit and drove in two.
Timberlane 2, Merrimack 1
The Owls scored two runs in the top of the sixth on RBIs from Chaunda Poulin and Alexa Salafia to come away with the win. Katie O’Leary was 2 for 2 with a double and scored a run. Salafia earned the win with a three-hitter, striking out five.
Salem 18, Bedford 2
Emersen Poulin and Addie Lucier each had three hits and three RBIs. Jenny Olson, Brianna Lucacio, Maddie Beeley and Abby Beeley all had two hits, combining to score nine runs and with nine RBIs. Michaela Dailey, Bailey Ruel and Jaelyn Boretti took care of the mound duty with Dailey recording the win.
Pinkerton 14, Trinity/West 1
Madi Cunha improved to 4-0 as she went the distance, allowing five hits and three walks with eight strikeouts. Maddie Schoenenberger (3 for 4, 3 runs, 2 RBIs), while, Avery Carvalho, Abby Carvalho (3 RBIs) and Cunha had two hits each for the unbeaten Astros.
Coe-Brown 18, Pelham 0
Pelham managed just two hits, one each from Lucy Daloia and Cheyenne Normandie.
Whittier Tech 13, Lowell Catholic 0
Maddie Noury was 3 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs, and Ainsley Rousseau was also 3 for 4 with a home run, driving in four and three times. Kaitlyn Hurley, Callie Nadeau and Ayva Hamlett combined to go 6 for 10 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Kaylee Habib tossed the five-inning shutout, a one-hitter with eight strikeouts.
Andover 4, Haverhill 0
Mia Rousseau tossed a two-hitter, striking out nine for the Warriors, now 4-4.
North Andover 6, Lowell 0
Brigid Gaffny fanned 11 in a one-hitter for the win. Jenna Roche was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Riley Davis was 2 for 3 with a RBI and Riley Cogliano had a hit and scored twice for the unbeaten Knights.
Central Catholic 6, Methuen 0
Julia Malowitz tossed her second straight shutout, striking out 11. Caitlin Milner set the tone for the game belting a three-run home run in the first inning. Malowitz and Bella Boyer also had two hits apiece.
Adriana Delaney singled and doubled for the 4-5 Rangers.
Boys Lacrosse
Methuen 5, Woburn 4
Goalie Mikey Moschitto made eight saves, while, Desi Csizmadia was 11 for 12 on face-off draws for the Jared Cripps had two goals, while, Owen Howell, Sean Morris, Joey Casarano and Quinn Vuylsteke had one each. Howell also added a pair of assists.
Central Catholic 13, Malden Catholic 1
The Raiders dominated from the get-go and were led by Luke Faletra, who netted four goals. Chase Akstin added three goals, Mason Bachry had two and Ryan Tighe had a goal and two assists. Joe Buchanan won 13-of-14 faceoffs and the combination of Jake Lydon and Maddox Moscardini stopped seven shots in net.
Pinkerton Academy 15, Merrimack 2
The Astros improved to 4-5 behind strong offensive performances from Matt Gormady (4 goals), Cole Summers (3 goals, 2 assists), Ricky Wong and Kyle Ushkevich (2 goals each), and Adam Scala (1 goal and 2 assists). Goalies Owen Perkins and Cody Dumont combined for nine saves, while Dylan Stingel was 14 of 15 on the draws.
Girls Lacrosse
Portsmouth 18, Salem 2
The Blue Devils couldn’t get much going in this game. Madison Wilson and Haylee Bernard had single goals and Katie Wood has an assist. Olivia Schoenrock (8) and Zeynep Yildirim (4) combined for a dozen saves.
Pinkerton Academy 22, Merrimack 10
Hailey Schnider broke a school record scoring 11 goals in one game to lead the Astros to the convincing victory. Junior Hannah Lisauskas added three goals and five assists and Piper Knowlton finished with three goals and two assists. Both Bella Pinardi and Delanie Summers had a goal and an assist. Sara DiClemente made six saves to earn the win in net.
North Andover 14, Lexington 5
Both Janie Papell and Isa Robinson each had five goals and two assists in the win. Avery Brown, Lauren Willoe, Sophia Fina and Lauren Dockray had the other tallies. Sam Melville was rock-solid in net, making 13 saves, while Wood had five draw controls.
Pelham 16, Concord Christian 4
Ella Desimone (6 goals) and Kate Burke (4 goals, 4 assists) powered the offense for 5-1 Pelham. Sophia Joncas and Katherine Carroll had two goals each.
Boys Volleyball
Essex Tech 3, Central Catholic 2
Essex Tech rallied back from a 2-1 game deficit to take the final two sets, winning the fifth, 15-11, to clinch it. Central (5-4) was led by Deryl Atem, who had 17 kills and 8 blocks, Michael Najjar, who had 32 assists, Jaithian Medina, who had 21 digs and Aidan Herries, who finished with 20 service points including four aces.
Greater Lawrence 3, Greater Lowell 0
The Reggies (6-4) made quick work of the Gryphons behind six service points and 11 assists from Anthony Rubim and five kills by Keegan Doherty. Janiel Vizcaino had two blocks and Joel De La Rosa finished with nine digs.
Lowell 3, Lawrence 0
Lowell was too much for the Lancers (2-9). Playing well in the losing effort were David Castillo with eight kills and an ace, Nilson Perez with 15 assists, two blocks and two digs, and Julian Rivera with three service points.
Windham 3, Farmington 0
Ben Breen finished with six kills and one dig, while, Andrew Begley had eight assists and 10 service points, including nine aces. Jack Begley had a pair of blocks and Cian Adamchek also had 10 service points.
Pinkerton Academy 3, Dover 2
The Astros came up huge late, winning, 15-13, in the fifth. Junior Libero Grant Lopshire led the defensive effort with 10 digs. Ben Koelb dished out 17 assists and outside hitter Kayden Layne had 16 kills and 10 digs.
Boys Tennis
Central Catholic 5, Tewksbury 0
Winning their singles matches included Jack Makiej (6-0, 6-1), Ryan Melesky (6-2, 6-2) and James Diamantis (6-0, 6-1), In doubles, the team of Owen Bergeron and Alex Colombosian had a long grueling match and won, 6-2, 6-7 (2-7) and 10-7 and then the team of Jason Morris and Ashwin Narayanan won 6-3, 6-1.
Andover 5, Methuen 0
Nik Narina, Akarsh Janarthanan and Kian Keyhan all won in singles. Peter Doan-Matthew Wang and Cameron Nutter-Aaryan Deshwal posted shutout wins in doubles.
Windham 8, Kennett 1
Windham, 5-0, got singles wins from Tim Wang (8-3), Gilbert Feke (8-2), Dylan Wu (8-3), Shayan Biswas (8-3), Ben Carullo (8-1) and Russell Adler (8-3). Wang and Feke were winners at first doubles (8-2) to remain unbeaten. Wu and Biswas were winners at second doubles (8-4).
Londonderry 8, Salem 1
Junior Max Condon trailed 3-1 before rallying off seven straight games to win 8-3 which was a big bright spot for Salem (0-6). His strong serve proved to be too much. The doubles duo of Dylan Coyle and Matthew Harding battled hard to erase an early two-game deficit before falling in the tiebreak.
Girls Tennis
North Andover 5, Billerica 0
Tika Roy (6-0, 6-1), Sophia Yee (6-0, 6-2) and Jocelyn Jankowski (6-1, 6-0) swept the singles, while Callie Dias-Kendall Wolfe (6-2, 6-1) and Palomi Nihalani-Maddie Allen (6-3, 6-0) were the doubles winners.
Central Catholic 5, Notre Dame 0
Kayleigh Furbush won at first singles (6-1, 6-1) and that was followed by wins by Meg Washburn (6-0, 6-0) and Kaya Asmar (6-0, 6-0) for 4-1 Central. The teams of Ella Gregorio-Morgan Bateman and Alessandra Sacchetti-Melina Panagiotakopoulos dominated doubles.
Andover 4, Methuen 1
Andover’s Sonika Chaudhary (6-0, 6-3) and Mia Thomas (6-2, 6-0) won in singles, while Methuen’s Liv Lawrence pulled through at No. 3 in a three-set war. Elisia Yu-Caitlin Croll won in straight sets (6-2, 6-0) and Valerie Chu joined Celeste Minor to close out the victory, 7-6, 6-4, for 5-1 Andover.
Haverhill 5, Lawrence 0
Winners included Mallory Amirian (6-2, 7-5), Meredith Amirian (6-0, 6-0) and Abby Burrill (6-1, 6-0) in the singles, and Abby Browning-Olivia Dickert and Boston Alvino-Emily Dicker in doubles for 3-3 Haverhill.
Pelham 5, Sanborn 4
The Pythons (2-2) received wins from Jessica Bevens (8-1), Kathryn Haley (8-1) and Olivia Squillante (6-1, won by forfeit) as well as the doubles teams of Bevens/Haley (8-3) and Rosie Day and Squillante (8-5).
Bedford 6, Pinkerton Academy 3
Coming away with wins for the Astros (3-5) included Amelia Coyle (8-6), Mia Rivard (8-3) and Gabby Chouinard (8-4).
Track
Penn Relays
Over the April break, the Pinkerton boys and girls relay teams traveled to the world famous Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The girls relay teams competed on Thursday. Beginning with the 4x800m team of Sarah Rzasa, Kali Marzolf, Izzy Groulx and Tessa Silva ran their season’s best time of 9:54, which placed them 14th in their division.
The 4×100 relay team of Nora Brayall, Eva Roberts, Cami McNulty and Hannah Sippel ran a new personal best time of of 50.29, winning their heat and placing 29th in their division. The 4x400m team of Rzasa, Cami McNulty, Bella Sippel and Hannah Sippel ran a new personal record of 4:15, fast enough for 10th in their division.
On Friday morning, the boys 4×100 relay team of Travis Cavallo, Jamie Isaac, Zack Smith and Caden Michaud got after it ran at a clip of 43.69 for 39th overall. On Saturday, the 4×400 relay team of Michaud, Isaac, Aiden Dowd and Nate Binda crushed their previous time by running a season’s best personal record of 3:31.
MIAA State Relays
During Sunday’s Division 1 state relay meet, the Lawrence boys shuttle hurdle team of Jeromi Carrasquillo, Derick Pierre Paul, Kevin Feliz and Keron Spann finished third with a time of 1:03.2.
In Division 2, the Greater Lawrence boys team was led by a pair of fourth places and one fifth. The 4×100 relay team of Elizardo Melenciano, Andy Rodriguez, Johan Tomayo and Gustavo Varela finished fourth in 44.19. The shuttle hurdle team of Melenciano, Kyson Le, Dillon Meas and Ryan Leblanc was also fourth with a time of 1:13.8. The 4×400 team of Melenciano, Dan Laurendeau, Anthony Jimenez and Sebastian Saysourivong finished fifth in 3:45.
