Midstate Athletic Conference championships
Delaware Academy/South Kortright swept the Midstate Athletic Conference’s cross country championships Wednesday, Oct. 29, in Bainbridge, with team wins for the boys and girls, as well as a first-place finish in the boys varsity race for Jaden Lewis.
The DA/SK boys won the meet with 31 points, their 13th consecutive MAC title, according to Coach Skip Baxter.
Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville placed second with 39 points and Sidney was third with 53.
Lewis finished in 16.23, 18 seconds ahead of Owen Degan from B-G/A/H. Owen Mott from Sidney was third in 16.46. Langston Comer of DA/SK was fourth in 17.37, with Jake Favinger, from Unadilla Valley/Gilbertsville-Mount Upton, just behind him in 17.38.
The DA/SK girls were first with 28 points, their 19th consecutive league championship, Baxter said.
B-G/A/H was second with 34 points and Edmeston/Morris placed third with 67 points.
Deposit/Hancock’s Mirabella Sanford won the girls varsity race in 20.11, just three seconds ahead of teammate, Kali Buttacavoli. Lilly McGonigal from DA/SK finished third in 20.44. Maddie Ingham and Madison Farberman from B-G/A/H finished fourth and fifth in 21.07 and 21.10.
The DA/SK boys top five was rounded out by Emmett Tweed, eighth in 18.12, Jason VanMaaren, 10th in 18.24, and Dylan Leddy, 11th, in 18.48.
The DA/SK girls top five was round out by Aurelia Comer, sixth in 21.11, Daphne Vasilakis, seventh in 21.29, Olivia Kruppo, ninth in 22.14, and Emma Smith, 14th in 23.09.
DA/SK also won the boys and girls modified titles, with Liam Munro winning the boys modified race in 9.03. Miley Slater, from Unadilla Valley/Gilbertsville-Mount Upton, won the girls modified race in 9.45.
The Section IV cross country championship meet will take place Thursday, Nov. 6, at Chenango Valley State Park.
