Girls Cross Country
The Pinkerton girls cross country team had an outstanding performance at the 29th annual Kennett Invitational held Saturday at Conway High School in New Hampshire. The Astros recorded a perfect score of 17, which included placing six runners in the top ten. The second place team, Portsmouth, finished with 62 points.
Senior captain Contessa Silva was the overall winner, matching her time from last year’s meet of 19:26. She was followed closely by freshman Sookie Folsom (19:28) and senior captain Izzy Groulx (19:47) to sweep the top three. Sophomores Gabby Bedard (20:31) and Kali Marzolf (20:58) finished fifth and sixth to complete the team’s scoring. Sophomore Parker Knowlton finish in seventh with a time of 21:39, and fellow sophomore Sarah Rzasa was close behind in 11th in 21:58 …
North Andover finished in second place at the annual Frank Kelley Memorial Invitational Meet held in Wrentham. The Scarlet Knights finished with 66 points, 10 points behind winner Cambridge Rindge and Latin.
Leading the way for North Andover included Gabby Harty, who was 13th (19:20.2), Luna Prochazkova, who was 15th (19:25.3), Hannah Shea, who was 21st (19:40.7), Carly Peterson, who was 22nd (19:40.9) and Nicole Kroon, who was 34th (20:20.3). Also competing for the Scarlet Knights included Maddie Wolfe, who was 41st in 20:39.4 and Maddie Kennedy, who was 70th in 21:40.0.
In the freshman 3K race, Ashley Solimine was 13th with time of 13:41.2.
Boys Cross Country
North Andover finished in second place at the annual Kelley Invitational. Senior Dylan Cote led the way, finishing ninth overall with a time of 16:09.80 for the 5K course. He was followed by Luke McGillivray (16th, 16:20.20), Emmett LaRosa (22nd, 16:27.20), Josh Pelletier (49th, 17:04.20) and Luke Manzi (60th, 17:12.70).
Boys Soccer
Billerica was able to get past Andover, 4-1, in a Merrimack Valley Conference game. Ryan Won scored the lone goal in the losing effort while goalie Joe Cardillo made 10 saves. The Golden Warriors are now 2-4-2 on the season …
Methuen edged out Burlington, 2-1, in a non-league game. The Rangers scored both goals in the first half. Rayann Bhalla scored the first goal, his fifth of the season, with an assist going to Ben Catarius. Bhalla then added what proved to be the game winner which was his sixth of the season, on an assist from Josh Boumel. Burlington did score a goal in the second half by the Rangers’ defense, led by goalie Dyan Gavin (4 saves) held on. The Rangers improved to 2-2-4 with the win, which equaled last year’s point total of eight.
Girls Soccer
Windham defeated Manchester, 2-0, behind goals from Vanessa Deveau, her first of the season, and Emma Kendzulak, her third of the season …
On Friday night, Pinkerton blanked Dover, 2-0. Bella Sippel and Hannah Sippel scored the goals, while, Emma Nelson and Avery Carvalho picked up the assists. Maeve Gilligan made 1 save in net. Pinkerton is now 5-5-1 on the season.
Field Hockey
Despite two goals by Elsa Wood, Brooks Academy fell to Groton, 4-2. Assisting on the goals were Molly McDowell and Mary Adams. Playing well on defense was Lilly Byrnes.
Volleyball
Groton defeated Brooks, 3-0 including scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-18. Brooks is now 1-3 on the season.
College Men’s Soccer
Freshman Jadiel Bonfim found the back of the net four times as the Northern Essex Community College rolled over Bristol Community College in Region 21 action with a 6-1 victory. With the win, NECC improves its season record to 5-2-1 and 2-0-1 in region play.
Methuen residents Jonathan Diaz and Othmane Elhatani contributed as well with the former picking up three assists and the later had one.
Will Panini of Derry, New Hamsphire, recorded five saves for his second consecutive win and fifth of the season.
