Signs of spring are all around: crocuses are pushing up through fallen leaves, the days are getting longer, temperatures are staying warm longer.
And Hebbertsburg Community Center’s dinners and dances are starting up.
The first dinner and dance is Saturday, April 11, at the center at 8697 Hebbertsburg Road, Crab Orchard, about 5 miles north from the stoplight at Peavine and Stonehenge Drive in Fairfield Glade. Watch for the posted signs and turn left at the fork in the road with the stone house at its center. The blue Community Center is about a block down on the left.
“Folks, this is family-friendly fun at reasonable prices,” said Sharon Hilton, who has been a part of the dinners and dances for several years. “We invite you to join us and bring your sweetie, kids and grandkids, and invite friends and neighbors to come along, too.”
There is no change in prices or admission from last year. The doors open at 3:30 p.m.; admission is $7 for adults, free for ages 16 and younger.
Food service starts at 4:15 p.m. The Kitchen Crew prepares a choice of two meals: spaghetti and meat sauce with bread or a barbecue sandwich with chips with soft drink or coffee, for $11 per meal. Additional drinks or cake slices are $1 each.
The Memory Road Trio performs from 5-8 p.m. with renditions of music from the 1930s to today’s favorites.
“We challenge you to stump them with a musical request,” Hilton said.
The fun continues during the band’s two breaks: The “Fun and Famous Cake Walk” takes place during the first break, with the Sweet T Clogggers providing entertainment for the second break.
Hilton said the six-book set of “The History of Hebbertsburg”is available for $48; individual copies are $8 each.
“Everyone helping is a volunteer and all the funds collected go toward the expenses of maintaining the Community Center,” Hilton said. “We’ll be watching for ya!”
