TRAVERSE CITY — An in-home healthcare worker was arrested and charged on suspicion of embezzling more than $250,000 from an elderly patient over a six-year span.
Dawn Anderson, 58, of Bear Lake, was arraigned Feb. 20 in the 86th District Court on charges of embezzlement ($100,000 or more); using computers to commit a crime; and possession of a financial transaction device, according to a Michigan State Police statement.
Troopers began investigating the case in December 2024 after the family of an elderly Traverse City woman received a bank alert for unusual account activity. The state police’s preliminary investigation alleges Anderson, an in-home healthcare worker who cared for the woman, retained and used her credit cards, wrote personal checks, and accessed her bank accounts to take more than $250,000 over a six-year span, the statement said.
The Grand Traverse County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a warrant for Anderson’s arrest. She was given a $25,000 bond and her next court appearance is at 2 p.m. March 6.
