The SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick women’s soccer teams played to a 1-1 draw in the battle of West Street rivals at Hartwick on Friday.
Each team’s goal came via corner kick. Kaiden Ring opened the scoring for the Red Dragons in the 26th minute when she deflected a shot in from close range.
The Hawks would equalize in the late going when Stella Rowley converted off a corner kick in the 86th minute.
Unatego grad Meghan Perry made eight saves in the Hartwick net while Roxbury’s Bryanna Meehan made three stops for Oneonta.
The Red Dragons will host the Mayor’s Cup Tournament next weekend while Hartwick will visit SUNY Morrisville on Tuesday.

SUNY Oneonta 1, Union 0
SUNY Oneonta’s men’s soccer team opened its season on Friday with a 1-0 win over Union.
Kieran Weinstein scored the game’s only goal in the 50th minute with an assist from Ali Somow. Al Lucas made two saves to earn the shutout in goal.
The Red Dragons will host the Mayor’s Cup Tournament next weekend.
Hartwick 0, SUNY Delhi 0
Hartwick and SUNY Delhi opened their respective seasons on Friday by playing to a scoreless draw.
Salvatore Meloni made seven saves for the Broncos while Hartwick’s Dante Gesamondo earned his shutout without having to face a shot on net.
Hartwick will host SUNY Morrisville on Tuesday while Delhi will host Elmira on Wednesday.
FIELD HOCKEY
SUNY Oneonta 2, Utica 1
The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team opened its season Friday with a 2-1 road win against Utica.
Michaela Maniscalso opened the scoring for the Red Dragons just over five minutes into the game with an assist by Erin Clark.
After Utica tied things up in the second half, Oneonta responded just minutes later when Alexandra Howell scored what proved to be the game-winning goal off an assist by Abigail Draper.
Maura Leib made four saves in the victory for the Red Dragons.
Oneonta will face St. Lawrence on the road on Saturday.
Rochester 4, Hartwick 1
Hartwick fell to Rochester 4-1 in its season opener on the road Friday.
Makenzie Kensel scored the Hawks’ only goal unassisted. Ava Reynolds and Ashley Luppens made seven and six saves, respectively, in the loss.
Hartwick will be at RPI on Saturday.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
SUNY Oneonta 3, Mount St. Mary 0
SUNY Oneonta hosted the Red Dragon Invitational to open its volleyball season on Friday. The Red Dragons defeated Mount St. Mary in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-15.
Anna Moller had 21 digs, Emma Morretta had 10 kills, McKenna Law had 12 kills, Abigail Harper had 10 digs and Hailey Herrera provided 37 assists.
Oneonta will face Utica on Friday.

Penn College 1
Hartwick was in Williamsport, Pa. on Friday for the Lycoming Tournament as the Hawks defeated Penn College in four sets 25-11, 21-25, 25-14, 25-11.
Shelby Swartz had 12 kills and 10 digs, Shaelyn Thornton had nine kills, six digs and three assists, Braelyn Hornick had 33 assists and Ellie Kalbach notched 12 assists.
Hartwick will take on Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday.
