THOMASVILLE- Thomas County students at Hand-In-Hand Primary School marked Thursday, February 1, 2024, as a significant milestone in their early academic journey: the 100th day of the school year. Anna McKenzie’s kindergarteners prepared for the 100th day with a project that the students did at home. Students decorated sweaters with 100 items at home, and then brought them back to present to the class. Math goals were touched on by counting by ones, twos, and tens as well as adding tens to meet two math standards.
Students enjoyed snack mix that was sorted on ten frames: ten different items with ten of each were put on the ten frames as the students learned that 10 tens make 100. More activities included filling in the missing numbers on a 100’s chart to learn number patterns, sequencing, writing numerals, next number, and counting. Students recited a 100th day of school poem, sang a 100th day song, and ended the day making 100th day of school crowns while counting by tens and decorating crowns!
“This is such a fun way of bringing learning to life and giving it a purpose,” said McKenzie. “The activities help the kids see learning as an exciting and fun time as they make connections from their world to the world of numbers.”
