COAL CITY, W.Va. — Top-ranked Hampshire outscored Independence by 18 points after halftime to roll to a 52-36 road win on Friday night.
The Trojans (4-1) trailed 11-9 and 23-21 after the first two quarters but forged ahead 36-29 after three.
Hampshire was 7 for 9 at the line in the fourth to ice the game.
Carder Monroe paced Hampshire with 15 points, Izaiah Thorpe tallied 11 and Matt Medina, Ethan VanMeter and Trenton Timbrook added eight apiece.
Ashton Arthur scored a game-high 22 points for Independence, and Brock Green joined him in double figures with 10.
Hampshire is at Herbert Hoover on Saturday at 6 p.m.
South Hagerstown 77, No. 2 Fort Hill 65
HAGERSTOWN — South Hagerstown drilled 11 3-pointers to sink No. 2 Fort Hill on Friday night in the South Hagerstown Rebel Holliday Classic.
The Sentinels (1-2), who trailed 22-16 after the first quarter, 41-29 at the half and 60-47 after three periods, cut their deficit to six minutes left but couldn’t get closer.
Luke Leisinger and Dustin Littles led South Hagerstown with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Both made four 3-pointers.
Avery Cosley scored 15 points, and Abor Haidara added 13.
Fort Hill’s Liam Hamilton paced all scorers with 27 points and added 14 rebounds for a double-double. Jabril Daniels tallied 10 points and seven assists, Gamil Daniels scored 10 and James Powell added eight points.
Fort Hill takes on Heritage Academy (8-0) on Saturday at 4 p.m. at South Hagerstown. Heritage beat Allegany, 74-62, on Friday.
Petersburg 72, Union 56
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Petersburg got hot in the third quarter to pull away from Union on Friday in the Petersburg Holiday Tournament.
The Vikings (3-1) tallied 23 points in the third to turn a 35-27 halftime edge into a 58-38 advantage.
Peyton Tingler paced Petersburg with 20 points, Payton Metheny finished with 19, Caden Ours scored 12 and Lucas Riggleman added nine.
Union’s Braylon Ward contributed a game-high 24 points, and Corbin Streets recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.
Union (4-2) plays Moorefield (1-3) in the consolation game on Saturday at 6 p.m., followed by the championship bout between Petersburg and Pendleton County.
Washington 58, Mtn. Ridge 24
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — Washington used its defense to shut down Mountain Ridge on Friday at the Hedgesville mixer.
The Miners, still in search of their first win at 0-5, trailed 18-3 after the first quarter, 28-9 at halftime and 46-19 at the conclusion of three periods.
DJ Boadley scored a game-high 11 points to lead a balanced Washington offense that had 10 players who scored at least one point.
Kris Washington led Mountain Ridge with eight points.
Blacklick Valley 84, Paw Paw 72
SALISBURY, Pa — Despite a game-high 40-point explosion from Donovan Tanouye, Paw Paw lost to Blacklick Valley on Friday at a tournament in Salisbury.
Tanouye made 17 field goals, but he was rivaled by another statistical anomaly on the other side as Blackhawk’s Greg Schilling buried 10 3-pointers — eight in the first half.
Schilling finished with 32 points to lead a Blackhawk squad that sunk 15 treys. Drew McEvoy added 20 points.
Taylor Carder joined Tanouye in double figures for Paw Paw (1-4) with 13 points.
Paw Paw faced Turkeyfoot on Saturday at 7 p.m.
